LNG Scout and the reason behind his potential non-attendance at Worlds 2024

According to a report by Daily eSports, the Korean mid lane will not be able to take part in the World Championship due to an ongoing lawsuit with his former team, EDward Gaming.

EDG previously sued the player when he transferred to LNG prior to the start of the 2023 season. The lawsuit is still ongoing and it’s in its second trial. After unsuccessful results on the first trial, EDG appealed and reportedly requested a travel ban on the player. Scout was supposed to go on vacation back to his native country after the end of the season, but he ended up staying in China due to the ongoing second trial.

With the latter’s ruling yet to be defined, the travel ban is still in effect for the player, meaning that he will likely miss the tournament. Based on the report, Scout is likely to miss the Swiss stage of the World Championship, which will take place in Berlin later next month.

What are the consequences in case of his absence?

Currently, LNG doesn’t have a second mid lane in their roster as the substitute player is currently former NIP jungler  Zhao ‘Shadow’ Ziqiang. There have been previous instances of teams getting substitute players on loan from other teams, but considering Scout’s individual skill and importance on the team, the roster will likely be affected if he were unable to take part.

Esports entertainment and agency brand SuperGent, which represents the player, has stated: “We are doing our best in many ways to ensure that ‘Scout’ can participate in the World Championship this time. We are continuously looking for ways, but it seems difficult to participate in the World Championship without EDG’s cooperation. For the sake of our fans and the good performance of the Chinese team, we would like to respectfully request that EDG lift the travel ban on Scout.”

In other words, if EDG does not request the lifting of the travel ban, Scout won’t be able to join his teammates in the run for the 2024 World Championship
