If you haven’t heard about it, there’s a new Deadlock-inspired third-person shooter arcade game that’s been added to Dota 2. “Deadlock Experemental” is a crossover letting you experience what it’s like to play Dota 2 from a third-person shooter perspective. However, it’s important to note that it’s not just another shooting game, but still a MOBA-style game with a third-person shooter perspective.
What is Deadlock Experemental?
Not to be confused with Valve’s official game, Deadlock, the ‘Deadlock Experemental’ is a Dota 2 Arcade mode developed by someone who goes by the Steam name, StrangeR. It’s essentially his proof-of-concept with upcoming third person shooter Deadlock being played on Dota 2 map. Based on the gameplay from a popular streamer, Meeponegeroi, It features the familiar Dota 2 map, albeit with a few differences. Particularly, characters from the official Deadlock game itself are available to use against the familiar Dota 2 heroes.
Perhaps the most exciting feature of Deadlock Experemental is that you can switch to a third-person perspective to attack and move around. However, it seems like it would be more comfortable to switch back to the regular bird-eye mode to do more complex tasks, such as collecting runes, attacking Roshan, and using skills.
While the workshop mod is in its early stage, it’s impressive that the game mode is already available to play, albeit there are several steps to do so. As such, excited fans are calling for Valve to officially add this custom mode into the Dota 2 client.
How to Play Deadlock Experemental
Since it’s not available directly in Dota 2 client yet, you will have to perform these steps to play Deadlock Experemental:
Visit the Workshop page for the map
Subscribe to the custom mode
Meanwhile, wait for your Steam to download the custom map
Open Dota 2 client as usual
Navigate to the ‘Arcade’ section of your main menu
Search for your downloaded custom mode and press ‘Play Deadlock Experemental’
Deadlock Experemental is an interesting take on Dota 2 as a shooter game. While it’s not an official Valve game, its inspiration, Deadlock, is Valve’s current pet project, and currently undergoing live testing. This strange Dota 2 arcade mode has showed that despite the perspective change, there’s still a lot of similarities between Dota 2 and Deadlock – Enough that the heroes from each game could match up on pretty even footing.
