Tokyo Xtreme Racer is a brand-new arcade-style racing game coming out in 2025. The 2025 game slate is chock full of excellent and exciting titles, but this one is an unheralded one that might go overlooked.
That shouldn’t be the case, as it’s shaping up to be a really excellent addition to the gaming lexicon this year. Here’s what you need to know.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer Release Date
The early access release date for this game is January 22, 2005. The developers said this about choosing to release it as a not fully finished product:
“Since this is the first time in over 18 years that Tokyo Xtreme Racer will be returning, we felt it would be best to launch the game in Early Access to do justice to the franchise. A lot has changed in the genre since Tokyo Xtreme Racer was around, and we believe it’s just as important to collect feedback not only from the fans that have stuck with the franchise, but also from racing game fans in general.”
They also noted that they plan to keep the game in early access for some time. They’re estimating four months of early access before it gets a wide release so that they can continue perfecting the game based on fan feedback.
“Depending on how the progress of development goes throughout Early Access, we will decide and announce the full release of the game as soon as possible,” they said.
Platforms
Tokyo Xtreme Racer is only available on Steam right now. It’s a PC exclusive for the time being. It is part of a longstanding franchise that has been dormant since 2005, and those games were available on Sega and PlayStation. It’s possible that a console port will be available in the future, but it’s not presently.

The trailer shows off exactly what the game promises: fun, arcade-style racing. The graphics are excellent, and there are a ton of customization options for your vehicles. The gameplay itself is pretty straightforward, as it utilizes the same mechanics that most racing games do.
