The EA Sports FC Pro season 2025 is in full swing, and the FC Pro Open finals wrapped up this past weekend with RBLZ Gaming’s Anders Vejrgang taking home the trophy after a incredible finals day performance.
Esports.net had the chance to interview the EA Sports FC Pro Open winner, and reigning World Cup Champion, Vejrgang after his win. Vejrgang shared a little about his mentality during the match-up, what it’s like to play in hostile conditions with the crowd against you, and just why he talks so much to the camera during matches.
Vejrgang Claims Victory at EA Sports FC Pro Open Finals – Exclusive Interview
Congratulations on winning the FC Pro Open! You we’re playing in somewhat adverse conditions – most of the crowd was really not on your side for a lot of that final. Was that something you had to overcome, or did it help you?
Anders Verjgang: “I would say it helps me. I’m used to it. I do a lot of celebrations and some people hate me a lot and some like me a lot and that’s fine for me. I deal with it and when everyone is against me I just try to use it as a positive thing. And I think I handled it very well today by not reacting too much. I think I’ve found the right balance and I’m very happy with the outcome of the tournament.”
Along that line, you’re very vocal when you’re playing: You talk to the camera, you shout at the crowd. Is that just part of your game? Does that help you perform to your maximum?
Verjgang: “Yeah, 100%. I mean, I think many think it’s against my opponent or just in general very toxic and it can seem like it’s very toxic. But it’s only like to push myself because I need to feel like there’s something on the line and I need to feel the intensity. Then sometimes you can react wrong, and I accept that and try to do the right thing – I always shake hands and respect my opponent.
I think some of my opponents should know by now that I only do it to push myself. I mean, today there was one opponent who didn’t shake my hand, and it’s okay for me… I mean, this was his celebration, I did it back.
The same happened last year to me. I still shake hands, so I think I’m not worse than anyone else, but people always talk because I am as good as I am, and then people are very conscious of my actions. Some are really against me, some are really for me, that’s how it is when you have a personality like me.”
It’s been a long day of games, we started at 4pm, it’s 9.30pm now. How do you keep the energy going during the day?
Verjgang: “Honestly, I had my first game, I think it’s 6.30 or something, and we had to be here at 11am, so how much is that? Like 7 hours? Where you just have to wait and I’ve played only one practice game. That’s also where I’m different to other players. I really don’t like practice that much, just in general, because it’s just like a natural talent I have, and I know that… I think that’s also something that benefits me on a day like today, because as you said, it’s like… What is it? 10 hours now? Or something where you have to be like focused
When I’m only playing one prac game it’s easier for me to gain energy where all the others maybe start to prac way earlier than me and then at the end they get more tired and tired. I think that’s a very lucky thing I have that it’s just a natural talent and I don’t have to play that much to get up to my level and I also know that every time I go on the stage I know that even without any practice I will always play better because I know there is something on the line. And usually it’s also very hard for me to take a practice game fully serious because as I said there is nothing on the line and I can’t hit my maximum.”
What was your coach saying during the game to keep you going and stop you from making any mistakes?
Verjgang: “Usually I don’t like when the coach is talking, I just want to hear the sound and push myself. But I would say it’s more about the things before the game, so I prepare what my opponent does, than just in general. People might say I’m kind of lazy, like I said, I don’t practice that much, but I got a new coach since the World Championship where I managed to win.
He’s been very good at letting me put in practice when I wanted and when I’m motivated and he’s very good at teaching me new things that I probably don’t know about. So I’m very happy that he’s on my side now and during the game of course he says some things and if I’m very in the zone I let him talk but usually I just like to keep it to myself and he also understands me.”
Towards the end of the game the pause with the throw in, you had your head in your hands. What was going through your mind right then?
Verjgang: “I always do that. Usually, when I’m behind in a game I don’t like to pause because you’re kind of mad and you just want to play. That’s actually a bad thing but yeah that’s how it is. And when I’m leading I always take a pause at the end of the game just to take the momentum out of the game and the tempo out of the game. I mean there were a lot of chances there. Just to take it easy.
I think when I play I’m looking like someone who’s close to dying. But that’s good for me because I know there’s something on the line. Sometimes I also overplay it a bit because then I really know I have to be 100%. It’s like a one and a half minute break so it’s kind of long. But then I also see the exact time and you can just concentrate. That’s how it is.”
Well, that’s all the questions I had Congratulations again and thank you!
