One of the biggest reveals of the March 27 Nintendo Direct has to have been the latest look at Metroid Prime 4. Initially revealed back in 2024, Metroid Prime 4 may be the Nintendo Switch’s most performance intensive game yet, as the graphics stunned with their quality and fidelity.

Here’s what we know about Metroid Prime 4 after the Nintendo Direct.

Metroid Prime 4 Could Be The Switch’s Most Graphically Intense Game Ever

Yesterday’s Nintendo Direct was the best look we’ve gotten so far of the next entry in the Metroid Prime series. Fans have been waiting a hugely long time for a new entry in this sub-franchise of the Metroid series, with the previous Metroid Prime game, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, releasing all the way back in August 2007, for the Nintendo Wii. Metroid Other M, a spin-off, released in 2010, again for the Wii.

So, we’ve waited almost two full console generations for another Metroid Prime game, and it looks like we won’t be disappointed. The first thing that blew minds about the preview was the graphical fidelity. Nintendo has always focused on “less is more” with the Switch punching well above its weight with games like Breath of the Wild.

But it’s pulling out all the stop for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. The preview also showcased the forest planet Viewros, new enemies, the Lamorn race, and Samus’s interesting new psychic powers.

Beyond this, there’s speculation that the game could in fact be a launch title for the Nintendo Switch 2, which we’re expecting to release sometime later this year. That would be unfortunate for loyal Switch players, but we don’t doubt there’s a lot of Switch players eager to get their hands on the new (and backwards compatible) version of the Nintendo console. And thanks to the new Virtual Game Cards, that’ll be easier than ever.
