In a post on their website titled “Dev Talk Vol. 13,” Marvel Rivals has spoken about the ongoing meta in the game. Within the document, NetEase has stated the following concerning the difference in gameplay between Season 1 and Season 2 of Marvel Rivals:
In previous seasons, the focus was on key abilities and energy management for ultimate skills, resulting in a more stable combat pace. However, Season 2.0 shifts the spotlight to coordinated attacks and focused targets, along with the necessary collective protective strategies and counterattacks, which have led to a more intense combat rhythm.
They state that in the upcoming Marvel Rivals mid-season patch, the damage output of certain Strategists in the game will be increased. This is done mainly to increase team composition possibilities. They have also stated that Groot, Captain America, and Spider-Man will receive certain nerfs in the game.
Alongside that, Doctor Strange and Winter Soldier will receive buffs on their ultimate ability and team-up ability, respectively.
What Will Be Its Impact Within The Competitive Ladder?
At the beginning of Season 2, the X-Men’s Emma Frost was released within the game. Currently, it is being speculated that Ultron will be released in the game on May 31.
With the launch of season 2, there were a lot of gameplay changes made in the game. A lot of heroes received nerfs and buffs in the game. On the other hand, new team-up abilities were announced in the game.
Another set of changes is coming to the competitive ladder, specifically regarding hero performance ratings. During each game, this rating is calculated based on the average key combat data for that hero at the player’s given rank.
In the Dev Talk Vol. 13, Marvel Rivals stated that they observed a small number of Duelists having a slight advantage in performance ratings within the first half of Marvel Rivals Season 2. Thus, in the upcoming patch of Marvel Rivals, they will be optimizing the calculations for these ratings to ensure fairness across all heroes.
The upcoming changes in Marvel Rivals can be crucial to the meta for the forthcoming season. If done right, we can see more usage of the Strategists class of heroes, who have recently seen quite a dip within the game.
Recently, Marvel Rivals announced the launch of the Free PS Plus Season 2 Bundle on console.
