Sea of Thieves is an action-adventure game that was developed by Rare and published by Xbox Game Studios in 2018. The game was first imagined in 2014 when the devs were motivated by gamers from Eve Online, DayZ and Rust, who used the game tools to tell their own stories. Rare experimented with various themes, including vampires and dinosaurs, before choosing to base their game on the Pirates of the Caribbean movies and The Goonies (1985).
