With the LPL summer regular split coming to an end, let’s see the first big match of its final week: FPX vs BLG. Who is taking the win? Here are our thoughts in our weekly preview.
FPX vs BLG – is FPX a volatile team?
Last week, we looked at the match between Top Esports and FPX as a key match for both teams to secure a stronger seeding going into the LPL summer playoffs. Despite FPX beating LNG, the first team in the standings, FPX showed they still have a lot to work on after they lost to both TES and WBG in the previous week.
The team will now have one last shot against BLG to get into the top 6, as they are contending with Anyone’s Legend. Coincidentally, both teams will be facing BLG in their last match so it’s probably the fairest matchup possible to decide the fate of both teams.
With that in mind, let’s break down the series and see whether FPX has room for another upset or if that was just a mix of stars aligning well.
Match breakdown
BLG comes into the match as the big favorites. Despite not looking as dominant as they were in the first part of the season, the team still packs a line up of talented players. And with Wei coming on board to share stage time with Xun, who has been looking rather off after MSI, BLG can rely on two strong junglers with quite different playstyles. In a meta where AP champions are at the top of the jungle tier list, Wei is shining a lot more.
The only one who is on par is probably the jungle position, as Milkyway is the strongest member of the FPX lineup. If the team manages to put itself into a strong position by targeting the enemy jungler, then FPX might have a chance. Otherwise, the Bin, Elk, and Knight trio is probably too much for the enemies to handle. I’m curious to see whether the bottom lane of deokdam and life can hold Elk and ON: it will be an important stress test for them heading into playoffs. Overall, however, it will probably be a strong 2-0 win for BLG.
