Black Myth: Wukong is the enormously popular new release from Game Science. In the wake of its launch, there are plenty of questions floating around about the game. Is it a Soulslike? Does it have bosses? Notably, many players are asking, “How hard is Black Myth: Wukong?” and that’s exactly what we’re here to answer.
Does Black Myth: Wukong have difficulty settings?
Unfortunately not. There is only one set difficulty in Black Myth: Wukong. It’s exactly the experience developer Game Science intended, and there’s no way to change it.
How hard is Black Myth: Wukong?
Even for players familiar with Soulslikes and their mechanics, Black Myth: Wukong will provide a formidable challenge most of the time. Many of the grunt enemies are quite hack-and-slash, more akin to that of a traditional action RPG. This means that casual players should be able to make good progress without becoming frustrated.
The real difficulty comes with the Black Myth: Wukong bosses. These are much more similar to bosses in Soulslikes like Elden Ring, requiring plenty of patience and (likely) multiple attempts to complete. This is where things get genuinely hard. You’ve got to be comfortable learning attack patterns, and failing over and over again. With perseverance, you’ll get there, but we can’t stress how much patience is required to make progress.
Luckily, death in Black Myth: Wukong isn’t at all punishing. You keep all of your XP, and return to the last Keeper’s Shrine you interacted with. This means you can fail an unlimited amount of times, and use each one as an important learning experience for your next attempt.
