Edward Gaming Shut Down Leviatan and Qualify For the Grand Finals
Before day 1 of the VALORANT Champions semi-finals, VALORANT announced the launch of the new agent in Vyse—an agent from the Sentinel class with various unique abilities. The day’s first match was the upper bracket finals between Leviatan and Edward Gaming. Both of these teams are the top seed from their respective regions. As our semi-finals predictions article stated, Leviatan consists of 2 previous VALORANT Champions winners. On the other hand, Edward Gaming became the first team to teach the top 4 of a VALORANT Champions event.
The first match of this best of 3 series was a roller coaster of emotions. The first half of the match ended with Leviatan being 9-3 up on deference. The prediction made by most fans that this match would be a one-sided affair was coming true. Edward Gaming pulled up their socks and in the second half won 6 rounds in a row to level the scores to 9-9. The match did go to overtime, but Leviatan pushed Edward Gaming for their lapse of judgment during round 29 and secured the first map in their name.
This win ignited a fire in the belly of Edward Gaming. From then on, they didn’t look back and made the map of Lotus a piece of cake. During the previous map, Kangkang had five first bloods to his name. He took it one level higher on Lotus and finished the series with 6. Edward Gaming shut down Leviatan with a scoreline of 13-4. The story during the decider match was unlike the first two matches. The first half ended with a score of 6-6. Edward Gaming won the game with a score of 13-11. With this win, Edward Gaming becomes the first VCT CN to make it to a VALORANT Champions Grand Finals.
Team Heretics Burn Sen City To The Ground During VALORANT Champions Semi-Finals
The second VALORANT Champions semi-finals Day 1 match was the final eliminator match between Team Heretics and Sentinels. This year, both teams have participated in a VCT Masters Grand Final. Sentinels during the VCT Masters Madrid event were Team Heretics during VCT Masters Shanghai lost to Gen G. The last time these two teams faced off was during Round 1 of VCT Masters Shanghai, in which Sentinels came out on top.
Game one was played on the map of Haven, which was the pick of Sentinels. If one had to explain this match using one phrase, it would be “The Map where Tenz reigned supreme.” Tyson “TenZ” Ngo went on a rampage during this match. He had a KDA of 29/10/7, securing three first kills and a 41 headshot percentage. The significant point here to note is that Tenz was playing Omen. Sentinels won match one with a scoreline of 13-8.
Game 2 was played on the map of Icebox. This was one of those matches that could have gone either way, but Team Heretics’ mentality proved to be the differentiating point. Following round 11, the score was 7-4 in favor of Sentinels. Team Heretics, following this, won 9 of the next 11 rounds. The point to note was that 6 out of the 8 round wins of Team Heretics on defense were due to the Sentinels not being Allowed to plant the spike. Team Heretics won Map 2 with a score of 13-9.
Like the first match, game three was played on the map of Abyss. Team Heretics started strong, winning the first four rounds of the game. The first half ended with a scoreline of 8-4 in favor of Heretics. The first half started incredibly for Sentinels, with Zachary “zekken” Patrone
getting an ACE. Sadly, it wasn’t enough, as Team Heretics ended the last round with a 1v2 clutch by Mert “Wo0t” Alkan and won the series with a scoreline of 13-7.
