It’s time to settle it once and for all: who will become the LPL Summer champion between BLG and WBG and head to Worlds as the #1 seed? Find out who has the better chance in our breakdown.
BLG vs WBG – LPL Summer Playoffs Preview
In an unpredictable turn of events, WBG have made it to the final of the LPL Summer Playoffs. Almost one year after making it to the Worlds final, the team will have a chance to lock in their Worlds 2024 spot. That said, the team will now have one last test against BLG, the undisputed no. 1 team in the Chinese league.
With this in mind, let’s go over the two teams’ recent form and what kind of gameplay we can expect from these two teams in the big showdown in Nanjing this Friday, August 30.
Series Breakdown
On paper, BLG always had the best lineup on paper. Not only did they retain the majority of the roster from last year but they even made the upgrade in the mid lane by bringing in Knight. On top of that, during the LPL Summer split, BLG was able to pick up Wei from RNG, which has probably taken the team’s potential to new heights once again.
When Xun struggled in the mid part of the regular split, it was Wei who showed up and brought even more firepower from the jungle to the point where it looks like he’s now the starting player on the roster. While there is still a question mark on whether Xun will be playing in the final, BLG will likely continue to dominate with their solid early-game and proactivity.
WBG, on the other hand, has looked a lot more shaky at times, especially when it comes to individual mistakes. Nonetheless, the teams often make it up with good planning and a great ability to enable Light and Tarzan.
Additionally, Xiaohu has looked better compared to the first rounds of playoffs, which is an important key for both teams’ drafting. BLG will have to respect that and his comfort pick will likely be taken away during the series.
I’m expecting BLG to target WBG’s bot lane to get the edge and put Wei into a position to prevent Tarzan from helping his teammates as much. Keep an eye on the top lane matchup: Breathe and Bin will finally square off on two strong teams after their unexpected swap last year.
Overall, BLG is definitely the more consistent team and the favorite going into the series but I won’t expect WBG to let the enemies run them over: a 3-1 score seems a more reasonable result.
