DreamHack is one of the biggest events on the esports calendar. Far from just a finale for one game, DreamHack has become a center for the entirety of esports. Offering major events for titles all across competitive gaming. There could be big changes afoot for the events though, with reports suggesting DreamHack leaving Jönköping in the near future.
The DreamHack tournament series is already home to games like Overwatch, CS:GO, Dota, LoL, and more. All of these games are typically featured in the DreamHack schedule across the years, with events in different locations. Although, Jönköping has been one of the main locations for DreamHack for quite a while.
For more than two decades, the event has been held in Jönköping, but that could be changing soon. Not only is the tournament series apparently leaving its home, but DreamHack Summer might be taking a year off.
DreamHack Leaving Jönköping and Cancelling a Summer Event
One of the next big events for DreamHack is Winter. However, this will be moving this year. After spending a long time in the city, it looks like DreamHack leaving Jönköping will go ahead. With Winter taking place in Stockholm according to a report by Dust2. Another part of this is that DreamHack Summer will take the year off.
This would mean major changes to the DreamHack line-up. The tournament series seems like it has already made the decision to leave the city. The news seems to come from an email circulated to hotels in the city. That specifies that DreamHack will be leaving Jönköping, and DreamHack Summer will not be running.
It does seem like DreamHack Winter will be salvaged, moving location to another city. However, DreamHack Summer taking a year off is a stranger part of the news. Hopefully in the future DreamHack can find a new home for Summer events.
The tournament series, having expanded over the years, already takes place across quite a few different countries and locations. There are plenty of candidates that take over as a new Summer home for the event. However, fans will be sad to see its long association with Jönköping ending.
