The round of 16 in the second set of Thunderpick WC 2024 EU Qualifiers has reached its conclusion after several days of action on the server. We’re here to bring you some highlight results, including how Cloud9 were able to take down one of its biggest competitors at this event.

On paper, we had Cloud9 and GamerLegion as two of the favorites to progress from the Thunderpick WC 2024 EU Qualifiers. What a shame, then, that these two teams were matched to face off against one another in the round of 16 here. One had to go, but it was Cloud9 who progressed in an impressive reverse-sweep over GamerLegion.

This is still a young GamerLegion roster, so any progress for them is good progress. For C9, it was their newest additions to their CS2 roster in ICY and HeavyGod that gave them everything they needed to get the win here.

Monte and OG shocked

We expected Monte and OG to be so much more competitive during the Thunderpick WC 2024 EU Qualifiers. Monte is filled with some veteran players, while OG have shown signs of potential in recent online showings. Here, the round of 16 is as far as their tournaments will go. Both Monte and OG picked up maps as they fell to BetBoom and ALTERNATE aTTaX respectively, but they’ll still be disappointed by their account of themselves here.

It was Monte veterans DemQQ and kRaSnaL who struggled the most during their match, while OG suffered from a drop in form from Buzz. We mostly see these two teams online nowadays, and this was an excellent opportunity for both to make it to a big LAN CS2 tournament. Alas, it wasn’t to be, and the online grind will continue for both.

TSM reverse-sweep B8

In the final game of the Thunderpick WC 2024 EU Qualifiers round of 16, TSM were able to mount an impressive comeback to reverse-sweep B8. On map one, B8 looked to be in total control, but a late comeback from TSM seemed to shake the confidence of the Ukrainians for the rest of the series. We like both of these teams a lot. They both grind Tier 2 intensely, and it’s a shame we can’t see both at the main Thunderpick event in October. For now, it’s TSM’s name that remains in the hat going forward.

After today’s matches, TSM will be thanking their lucky stars for Zyphon. He went 68:46 over the opposition, with an amazing 103 ADR average across all three maps. He was the real star here, although valde also managed to produce a solid performance to drag TSM through this series. As for B8? They were pretty consistent across the board, but without that element of star power, B8 couldn’t quite get all the rounds they needed for the win here.

Here are the matchups for the Quarter-Finals of the Thunderpick WC 2024 EU Qualifiers:

BetBoom vs. Gaimin Gladiators
ALTERNATE aTTaX vs. Cloud9
ECSTATIC vs. Zero Tenacity
Young Ninjas vs. TSM
