All Themes in Fortnite Chapter 1
Chapter 1 is when Fortnite was first made! As with any game that goes on this long, it’s pretty different from its original form these days. The themes in Fortnite Chapter 1 weren’t quite as big. We got updates with fairly random fun content. However, most seasons didn’t get a full theme. There was often a single word kind of thing behind the Battle Pass, but it didn’t always extend to a full seasonal theme.
However, that isn’t to say some seasons didn’t have a more coherent idea. They weren’t teased with the single word theme like they are now. But some seasons did seem to have a solid idea. Just, often it was more of a nebulous idea. Like Season 3. It was about Meteors which definitely made sense for the developing event. Less for the weapons and other features. These are themes from each Chapter 1 season:
- Season 2 – Medieval (This was an extremely loose theme, but applied to some Battle Pass elements)
- Season 3 – Meteor
- Season 4 – Superheroes
- Season 5 – Worlds Collide (A pretty lose theme)
- Season 6 – Darkness (Began the sideways stuff that would reoccur)
- Season 7 – Winter
- Season 8 – Pirates
- Season 9 – The Future
- Season X – Time
Some of these themes were fairly strong, but quite a lot were just a vague idea in the Battle Pass. It wasn’t really until later in the game when we got more coherent themes for Fortnite seasons.

The changeover to Chapter 2 brought a lot of new stuff to Battle Royale. However, it’s also when we started to get much more impactful Fortnite season themes. Compared to chapter 1, there was a much bigger difference between them.Chapter 2 Season 1 was more about the new map. From hat point on the themes were a lot bigger though! A flooded map, a Marvel takeaway, even the addition of wildlife mechanics.
These are the Chapter 2 themes we saw:
- Season 1 – New World
- Season 2 – Spies
- Season 3 – Flood
- Season 4 – Marvel
- Season 5 – Hunters
- Season 6 – Primal
- Season 7 – Invasion
- Season 8 – Cubed

Chapter 3 continued the trend that came in Chapter 2, with themes becoming much bigger. As we saw towards the end of that Chapter, the season theme began to become a single word that summed it up. Used in marketing, key art, dominating the season. Although, the first season of a Chapter tended to avoid it, to focus more on the new map. These are the themes in Chapter 3:
- Season 1 – Flipped
- Season 2 – War (Officially titled Resistance, the season’s clear theme got a bit complicated due to real world events)
- Season 3 – Vibin
- Season 4 – Paradise
Chapter 3 perhaps had the weirdest Fortnite season themes. The first season’s theme of Flipped really just refers to a cutscene in Fortnite lore that began the season. Although, the “theme” of Season 1s is often just the new map.
Then there’s the Resistance season, quite clearly War themed and made very far ahead of time. Which ran into trouble when real lie wars dominated at the news at its launch, changing it to Resistance. Vibin was about as vague as it got. Paradise was an equally loose concept, but the Chrome element was still a central idea behind the season.
Chapter 4 Fortnite Season Themes
The themes in Chapter 4 get a drop more complicated too. They often had a sub title, which is called the theme in Fortnite seasons. However, most had a clear theme too. These are the themes and sub titles for Chapter 4:
- Season 1 – New World (Again), Medieval (again)
- Season 2 – Mega (Neo-Tokyo)
- Season 3 – Wilds (Jungle)
- Season 4 – Last Resort (Heist)
- Fortnite OG – Chapter 1
Chapter 5

Chapter 5 continued a stronger focus on themes. The first season was a tad looser. However, the Greek Mythology season, car combat season, and marvel season were incredibly strongly themed. One of the most strongly themed seasons we’ve seen in the game. These are the themes now:
- Season 1 – Underground
- Season 2 – Myths and Mortals
- Season 3 – Wrecked
- Season 4 – Marvel (Again)
- Fortnite Remix – Chapter 2
Chapter 6

Chapter 6 broke with one bigger trend for Fortnite season themes. The first season of the new map actually had a proper name! It was Traditional Japan, since this was the theme of the map. It did give it a more solid idea behind it than previous “new world” season 1s though. With One masks and other features tying into it. Since then, we’ve still had solid themes behind the season:
- Season 1 – Traditional Japan
- Season 2 – Lawless
- Mini Season – Star Wars
Fortnite Chapter 6 has thrown the book out with the normal progress of seasons! Rather than a standard Season 3 with a set theme, we’ve got Fortnite Galactic Battle! Officially, a mini season, not a numbered one. For Fortnite season themes it’s quite a strong one though. This is a Star Wars collabs season.
The season’s sub-title could easily have been a theme, Galactic Battle or Star Wars. They both get the idea across! It’s also a season where the core theme has changed things much more than normal. We don’t even have any real weapons in the game right now. It’s nothing but blasters, and looks set to stay like that until next season. All the skins are Star Wars themed, all the new POIs are too. Even updates to Lego Fortnite have been Star Wars themed. Like the previous Marvel seasons, it’s been one with a strong theme.
The next Fortnite season theme could continue to be a strong influence on the game. So far, Chapter 6 has been very strongly themed. Fortnite leaks are pointing towards it being a Superhero season, mainly because Season 3s are often a superhero season. We don’t have too much to go off of yet but whatever it is, the Fortnite season theme will probably be the deciding factor in C6 S3’s gameplay.
What is a Season Theme in Fortnite?
The strength of what a season theme in Fortnite depends from season to season. Sometimes they’re quite large governing ideas. With every part of the season doing something with that theme, and gameplay around the season matching up too. Other times it’s a lot more nebulous though. Like a season having the sub-title Vibin. But kind of just being a normal Battle Royale season with a few different party props dropped around the map.
