The COD Mobile community is witnessing one of the major uproars in recent times after Activision abstained from releasing the much-anticipated Alchemy Stars collaboration event in the global version of the game. Frustrated fans took their discontent to social media platforms like Reddit and Twitter, with strict and clear demands. Here’s an update on the situation, the company’s response, and the ongoing fan backlash.

What is the COD Mobile x Alchemy Stars Controversy

The latest issue is surrounding the Alchemy Stars event. This event was made available to players with Garena and Chinese versions of the game but not the global version of COD Mobile. Fans were truly looking forward to this event as it had a zombie-themed game mode called Dark Infiltration along with special Alchemy Stars-themed camos. Many global players feel left out because the event wasn’t accessible to them.

Still, cosmetic items available in the collaboration, such as the camo, appeared on the global version, raising further confusion and frustration. Players were able to view Alchemy Stars camo in their inventories but had no way of obtaining those. It made matters worse as claims started spreading that Activision was teasing players with content they could not access.

While the global version did receive some content from the collaboration, it came in the form of paid draws instead of the highly desired grindable camo available in other regions.

Reaction from Activision on COD Mobile x Alchemy Stars: A “Test Event”

It took almost a week since Season 9 went live for Activision to make a statement. According to their X post, the event is part of a test that they are conducting in specific Asian countries because of “partnerships specific to this region.” They said that these tests help them determine which content to roll out globally based on player feedback.

Community Reactions: Global Players Demand Fair Treatment

However, the logic behind it was not sound enough for most players. Some asserted that if it were a regional test, then why was the paid Alchemy Stars Lucky Draw available in the global version? Many emphasized that this highlights Activision’s willingness to profit globally from the collaboration without even providing the full content.

At the core of the backlash is the lingering disappointment in the lack of new zombie content for the global version. Since Undead Siege mode was removed away two years ago, fans were anxiously expecting a good replacement mode. Even the battle royale mode is getting a new map after 3 years. A rumor about Dark Infiltration mode did raise hopes, but it faded swiftly when it was announced that this mode would not appear in the global version.

In a bite, the community’s demands are clear – transparency, equal access to content, and a revival of the zombie modes that made them excited about the game in the first place. Until these demands are answered, the discontent is not going away anytime soon.

What’s Next?

Activision’s statement gave a little hope, saying they are looking for ways to bring some of the event’s “best elements” to all players in the future. However, many fans still doubt this. Players have said that the Alchemy Stars camo could be made grindable in the Classic Zombies mode, giving them a reason to play the old mode again. Others have suggested adding the mode to Battle Royale with special challenges related to the camo.

After all, Activision’s reaction did not bring smiles to the lips of the global community. Feelings of being ignored and deprived of truly crucial content remain, thus making the hole between global players and the company even wider. Till then, fans can check out some of the confirmed content updates for the 5th Anniversary celebration of COD: Mobile.
