DIG vs NRG – LCS Championship Preview
It was a rough week for these two teams following their respective losses to 100T and FLY in the opening round of the LCS Championship. Despite having two promising rosters formed by long-standing veterans and rising talents, both struggled to show up on match day.
DIG, in particular, took a big blow by getting swept by 100 Thieves. The team not only wasn’t able to take one game in the series but several weaknesses emerged such as Licorice’s underperformance and the team’s inability to have one member carrying the rest on his back.
NRG at least was able to take one game against FLY, and there might be some positives to take from the series. Without further ado, let’s look at the key aspects of the series.
Series Breakdown
NRG’s main shining point for me has been Contractz, the only player who has been able to match last year’s performance. The rest of the lineup looked a bit off, especially Palafox who has been struggling more than the others. Maybe it’s the meta or him generally having a hard time, but the LCS mid laner hasn’t been solid this summer.
FBI has been playing more of a utility role while I think NRG need more firepower. We’ll see whether they can adjust their draft a bit by allowing him or Dhokla to play more damage-oriented options. It’s probably harder for the top laner as Rumble is often banned and he hasn’t had strong success on other champions.
For DIG, it’s more of a combination of multiple players not showing up compared to the expectations. Licorice and Jensen, despite the experience, haven’t been able to take up a leading role, and Zven hasn’t been able to make up that difference. Spica is also in a similar situation: once considered a top domestic talent, he hasn’t looked great for the majority of the split.
With all these factors lining up at the same time, it’s not surprising to see DIG struggle that much. I don’t think NRG will stomp them like 100T did, but things are looking rough and this might be the last chance they get to prove their worth.
