The docuseries will be released in weekly intervals, with the first episode followed by four more. Esports World Cup: Level Up will be released in more than 240 countries worldwide, granting massive visibility to the esports event.
According to a release, the series will focus on an inside look at the event and present stories about players, teams and supporting staff. The documentary will follow a range of characters, including CEOs and players, as they compete in the EWC Club Championship, the main segment of the EWC.
The documentary will feature the likes of T1’s Faker, Team Falcons CEO Mossad Aldossary, Team Liquid player Sanford and other notable esports figures.
The Club Championship sees different esports organisations (Clubs), compete in a variety of games to earn the points that go towards the EWC Champion title. Clubs with more teams stand a higher chance to accumulate points and win the competition, and Team Falcons from the Saudi Arabia won the inaugural edition in 2024.
R.J. Cutler, the documentary’s director, commented:
What drew me to the Esports World Cup was the compelling human stories unfolding within this high-stakes arena. Level Up isn’t just about the incredible competition and prize money; it’s about the dedication, the passion, and the sheer will of these athletes and teams pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. Under high pressure, we discover the true character of the competitors who vie for $60 million, but who also expose their humanity in the process.
The 2025 edition of the Esports World Cup will be hosted over the summer in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and will feature an increased prize pool of more than $70m, new games such as CrossFire and VALORANT, and more than 200 organisations (clubs).
