This year the EVO tournament series is getting a lot bigger, with the launch of more events. The event with a recent announcement is EVO France. We’re getting a new event for Europe with this tournament, a chance for players in this region to take each other on in all the top games. What games are going to be featured at EVO France though?
This week, we’ve seen the announcement for the full selection of mainstage games. Most of the biggest fighting games are represented here. However, there are some notable omissions. For one thing, Mortal Kombat seems missing from the main stage entirely. What’s being played at EVO France and what can we learn from the changes to the line-up from other events?
EVO France Main Stage Games
Before we saw the announcement of games for EVO France, there were a few titles we pretty much knew would be featured, like Street Fighter 6. However, there have been a few surprises. These are the main stage games coming for the tournament:
Street Fighter 6
Tekken 8
Guilty Gear Strive
FighterZ
Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising
Fatal Fury City of Wolves

The top three here aren’t a major surprise. SF and Tekken have both been very impressive in sign-up numbers at EVO tournaments. Strive also doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, with even more content still coming. FighterZ is also looking surprisingly strong for a game that’s been out of development for so long. It’s nice to see Versus Rising making the mainstage too.
City of Wolves is a bit of an unconventional pick. As a new fighting game, it’s going to be interesting to see it played at the highest level though. Maybe the biggest takeaway of the EVO France games is that Mortal Kombat 1 isn’t here.
Mortal Kombat being missing is definitely a surprise. It could still make it in, but it won’t be a mainstage game. Out of the new fighters in recent years, MK definitely had the weakest performance out of the big 3. The game has been improving over time, hopefully, it can bounce back and make it to the main stage in the future.
