Fortnite’s new season has been focused on crime, even launching a new untraceable currency to launder the proceeds of bank heists into mythic weapons. This new currency is an obvious parody of cryptocurrency, Dill Bits. Although, as often happens in these cases, the joke has become reality. A group completely unrelated to the game has decided to cash in and establish a Dill Bits cryptocurrency, all primed ready to dump on any unwitting fans who fall for it.

The new Fortnite season contains a few elements directly parodying cryptocurrency. The Dill Bits currency is useful in game, allowing to unlock mythics. However, in the details around the tokens. It’s hard to miss that it’s a take on cryptocurrency. Right down to the upcoming Pump N Dump Shotgun, another knock at the world of crypto. Despite the depiction of Dill Bits being nearly entirely negative in Fortnite, some group of crypto makers have decided it’s an opportunity to separate players from their cash. Unofficial Scam Dill Bits Cryptocurrency Has Been Set Up

The Dill Bits in-game definitely isn’t supposed to be an advert for a cryptocurrency. But shamelessly, a real crypto has already been set-up to mimic the coins. As of a week into the season, the unofficial Dill Bits cryptocurrency was already launched to try and scam Fortnite fans out of their money. And as of a short while later, Dill Bits had already been dumped.

The Dill Bits coin was created on Solana, and at one point achieved a market cap of nearly $5 Million. Pretty impressive. The creators clearly thought so too, and began to dump their supply of the coin onto the marketplace to cash in on whoever fell for the coin. This led to the value of the Dill Bits cryptocurrency crashing by 90%.

Crypto Coin Uses Fortnite Assets

Most probably missed the scam entirely given how quick it was! An unofficial coin started. While not related to Epic, it was using the Fortnite item’s name. Using art nearly identical to Fortnite. With a lot of tracker sites like dex.scanner even listing the official website for the coin as the Fortnite Wiki. While also having Fortnite renders of skins, the map, and items plastered all over the coin. Then it ran up to the millions, and crashed back down to a fraction of that in such a short amount of time. Scams operating this quickly might go too quick for Epic to step in.

It’s a shame that crypto scammers cash in on properties like Fortnite. While it’s especially shameless given the game has large number of younger fans in its player base. The coin was created used a service called Pump.fun, a tool that lets anyone make coins quickly. However, meaning this particular pump and dump was pretty low effort. Hopefully the real Dill Bits don’t see their value crash towards the end of the season in a similar way.
