Final Fantasy XIV has started a free login campaign as of yesterday (Jan. 9), with any existing FFXIV players able to rejoin and enjoy game for a limited time.
From today, players who have previously purchased and registered FFXIV, but have been inactive for at least 30 days (as in, not paid up), can log in for free for four days. The four days begins from the first day players login until midnight (at GMT) of the fourth day.
That means you get a maximum of 96 free hours in FFXIV between Thursday Jan. 9 and Feb. 6. The campaign ends at February 6, 2025 at 14:59 GMT.

FFXIV Free Login Campaign 2025
The Free Login Campaign is honestly a perfect time to rejoin FFXIV if you’ve been away. The games annual New Year-themed event, Heavensturn, began on Dec. 31, 2025, and is ongoing until Jan. 16. What’s more, the game has recently added a host of new content including all the content from the 7.1 patch, Inconceivably Further Hildebrand Adventures, the new Cloud of Darkness (Chaotic) high-difficulty 24-man raid, and more besides.

Behind the scenes, this is likely Square Enix’s attempt to boost active players and subscriber numbers ahead of what could be a disappointing end to the 2024-2025 financial year. FFXIV’s latest expansion, Dawntrail, had a mixed reception, and unconfirmed FFXIV player counts suggest that many players have moved on from the game.
With almost 18 months of content left in the Dawntrail expansion, but over two full months until the next major patch release date, FFXIV may be looking to ensure it can keep players interested. And a free login campaign is definitely a surefire way to get players back in game and into the world of Eorzea.
