The Thunderpick WC 2024 South American qualifiers are well underway now, with the final Quarter-Final berths now being secured by two of the biggest teams in the region. With each team hoping to follow in Imperial’s footsteps in the last Thunderpick World Championship SA Qualifier, we’re taking a look at who progressed to the next round of play.
Sharks inch past Hype
The first match of the day was Sharks vs. Hype, in a tie that really should have been much easier than it was. Eventually, the expected victor Sharks did come out on top in a 2:0 series, but they were pushed hard on both maps by Hype. It eventually came down to Overtime on Inferno, but Sharks would have too much class for Hype to compete in the end.
For Sharks, gafolo was the hero in the Thunderpick WC 2024 round of 16. He managed to post 51 kills across the two maps, putting on a storming performance despite the series itself being close. Considering Sharks now face Fluxo in the next round, they’ll need gafolo to keep up this kind of form if they’re to have any hope of progressing any further here.
RED Canids make short work of Intense
We weren’t shocked to see RED Canids take down Intense in two swift maps. They were huge favorites coming into the series, so it was only a case of the Brazilians staying professional to get the job done in a comfortable manner. Truth be told, they never looked threatened, with Intense only managing a total of 12 round wins across the entire series.
It was another glimpse of the legendary coldzera in action at the Thunderpick WC 2024 SA qualifiers, but it wasn’t him who played the starring role in this particular piece. Instead, it was dav1deuS topping the scoreboard with an impressive total of 41 kills across just 38 rounds. His massive impact was certainly felt here. RED Canids are now set to play Case, and we’d have them down as favorites to make it to the Semi-Finals at the very least.
