Fortnite has everything these days from Goku to Lady Gaga. Not every crossover is popular with the game’s player base though. A more recent crossover has proven kinda dividing, not just with everyone playing the game. But apparently with the developers themselves too. A few have taken to Twitter to express their personal distaste for the Cybertruck crossover.
The Tesla company isn’t exactly very popular right now. The manufacturer of electric vehicle and carbon credits has been weighed down by the frequent cringy outbursts of one controversial member of its leadership. With the Fortnite Cybertruck collab in the game, it’s reached the metaverse of the Battle Royale too.
At the moment, players can work through some quests to unlock the Cybertruck skin in game. However, Fortntie devs on Twitter have expressed support for some of the player base’s ideas to bully the Cybertruck skin out of lobbies once it’s more widely unlocked.
Fortnite Devs React to Cybertruck Crossover
Epic Games is a big company running not just Unreal, maybe the most advanced game engine at the moment, but Fortnite. One of (if not the) most actively played games in 2024. However, that also means a big staff. Combine it with a topic as controversial as the Fortnite Cybertruck collab and there’s going to be at least a handful with something personal to say about it.
A few Fortnite devs have expressed their personal opinions on Twitter (as it was known before the Cybertruck hype man got involved). Kyle Wynn the producer of Fortnite Festival, has had some thoughts about voting with your wallet or usage. Not directly aimed at the Cybertruck, but it’s difficult to see his comments right after the reveal as unrelated.
Reportedly, in the lead-up to the Truck release another dev who has since made their account private wrote “destroy on sight” with a bit of a cheeky emote choice. This tactic is one that’s been picked up by plenty of the Fortnite player base in social media. The truck is still locked behind quests right now. Forcing anyone using it back to the lobby is a fun way of combating an unwanted collab!
Not everyone is always going to enjoy every Fortnite collab. This current controversy goes a bit beyond thinking a certain anime picked is mid though. The Cybertruck is probably here to stay. Although, it’s got a convoluted quest path to unlock it and so much hostility. It could end up being one of those collab skins that rarely gets a repeat outing.
