Fortnite’s just launched the new season, but as is becoming customary it’s already had a major round of nerfs. Just like the cars that Season 3 was themed around, the themed items for Season 4 have had major knockbacks. Fortnite Marvel nerfs are going to take a big toll on how the season works.

These nerfs come just a few days since the game got its Chapter 5 Season 4 update. However, the key items for the season are already being toned down. While it’s a bit weird to see it happen so quickly (especially for the second season in a row), it’s hard to argue these nerfs weren’t kind of needed. How have the most effective new weapons been stripped back in this new patch?

Fortnite Marvel Nerfs Arrive

In a recent hotfix change, Epic has decided to nerf the most effective of the new Marvel items. Since the season launched players have noticed a few things. One, the War Machine Arsenal is insane. It blasts through builds and players will little drawback to being spammed. Second, that the shield is a ridiculous item. They’ve decided to scale back how two of the biggest new features work. These are the changes:

War Machine’s Arsenal

Spawn rates down 50%
Reload time doubled
Build damage reduced from 100 to 80

Captain America’s Shield

Spawn rate down 20%
Damage down from 60 to 50
Homing in won’t activate unless you aim now
Staggers twice as quickly

Sovereign Shotgun

ADS quicker
Fires faster

These changes are positive in quite a few places. The mobile personal mech you can become with the Arsenal has been toned down, though it will still be a problem. The skill less part of the Shield has been toned down too, although not entirely. The Sovereign’s buff might help too, but it probably won’t outplay the Gatekeep anytime soon.

The downside to these changes is probably spawn rate, since this moves the advantage in the game from skill to luck. If it’s much harder to find it won’t make them less effective, however, it’ll just mean fewer lucky players get the massive advantage. It’s going to be a lot harder to track down the new Mythics in future games. Although, with these changes we might have a nicer middle ground where they’re still effective but players can use guns too.
