In the last few years, Fortnite Creative mode has blown up. Creators everywhere are making maps, and a ton of players are playing them pretty often. With the introduction of Unreal Engine Fortnite, which essentially allows maps to be anything the creator dreams up, that was only enhanced. The mode isn’t quite as popular as Battle Royale, but it’s still a big driver for the game. Epic Games just confirmed how big.

Epic Games Reveals Impressive Creative Mode Stats

According to HYPEX, Fortnite creators earned an astonishing $352 million from Epic Games in 2024. Throughout the year, they paid an incredible amount of money to players for making highly enjoyable maps and other experiences. Of that money paid out, seven creators earned more than $10 million for the year solely from the game mode.

14 of those creators were paid at least $3 million for their maps. 37 made more than $1 million total, so there were a lot of millionaires last year from Fortnite. Even those who weren’t still got paid handsomely. 154 earned $300,000 or more. 418 were paid $100,000 or more. 7,000 players made between one and $10,000. Over 13,000 gamers were paid at least $100, too. There is money to be made from creating good, fun maps.

Epic also revealed the overall play time for Creative mode. 36.5% of Fortnite’s total time in 2024 came from various Creative Maps. That’s a 5% increase from the year before. In total, 5.23 billion hours were spent by players on Creative maps and experiences.

Creative mode used to be the overlooked one. Players bought the game for Save the World and enjoyed Battle Royale, but Creative was an afterthought. Now, thanks to Creative maps like Bedwars, Murder Mystery, and Meme Box Fights, there’s a lot of interest in the game mode. Even with the addition of Fortnite Festival, Rocket Racing, and other variations of Battle Royale (Zero Build, OG, etc.), Creative remains a staple of the game.
