People laughed when G2 signed one of NA’s best prospects in malbsMd, and forced him into nexa’s anchor roles. People laughed when G2 replaced their trophy-winning IGL with Snax, who hasn’t played at the top level for years. Well, they’re not laughing now, as G2 romped to an easy 2:0 win over Virtus.pro in the EWC 2024 CS2 Semi-Finals. This is a Virtus.pro team that has proven tough to beat throughout the tournament, but G2 put them away with ease in a series that never looked close.
On the day, it was that duo of NiKo and m0NESY causing all the trouble for G2. NiKo went a remarkable scoreline of 43:15 across both maps, with the first being, by the numbers, the second-best map in his entire career. Even Snax went massively positive, showcasing this is a new G2 with some real firepower on the server. In this kind of form, there’s no doubt this debuting G2 can win their first tournament together.
NAVI reverse-sweep MOUZ

It was the most unlikely of comebacks. After falling 13:1 to MOUZ in the first map, NAVI managed to fight their way back into the series with two dominating maps in return. The EWC 2024 CS2 Semi-Final looked done and dusted after that first map, but impressive mental resilience from NAVI meant that they were able to secure their spot in the Grand Final.
For NAVI, it’s w0nderful who will go down as the hero here. The young AWPer put on a dominating performance in those final two maps, showing why he’s considered one of the top young talents in world CS. He already has his Major, but an Esports World Cup 2024 trophy on top of that would be a fine addition to the trophy cabinet for w0nderful. Frankly, it was a solid day all around for NAVI, who were just a different team after putting that first map behind them.
