G2 vs BDS – LEC Season Finals Preview

After losing to MDK in the opening round of the LEC Season Finals, G2 were put into the losers’ bracket. Despite the upset, they were able to quickly sweep GIANTX with a clean 3-0 win. Now, they will go up against BDS, who also swept SK Gaming with a 3-0 score.

Having won the LEC Summer Split, G2 is already one of the three LEC teams that qualified to Worlds 2024. Regardless of their finishing position in the Season Finals, they are guaranteed to represent EU later in October. And with one team between MDK and FNC also locking a slot, the chances for BDS are getting slimmer and slimmer. Will they repeat last year’s feat or will the season end prematurely for them?

Series Breakdown

While G2 definitely comes into this series as the favorites, I want to give some credit to Team BDS and their recent form. In the series against SK Gaming, we saw the Swiss team going back to an identity that has been more in line with their strengths. Jungler Sheo didn’t perform too well on carry AP junglers so the team has put him back onto utility tank champions like Maokai and Sejuani. And to make up for the loss of damage in the jungle role, we saw top laner Adam going for champions like Kennen and Cassiopeia, which came as a surprise for many, including myself.

In a weird way, BDS has been trying to find a solution to one of their main issues and it seems to have worked out well against SK. Against G2, though, they will have to shift things once again because the chances of getting countered are high. Brokenblade is known for having a wide champion pool and willingly playing unconventional picks for the greater good.

The other main focus will likely be on the bottom lane: if Ice and Labrov somehow find an opening against Hans Sama and Mikyx, then we might have a great series. Otherwise, G2 will likely take a clean win, and lock in both FNC and MDK to Worlds 2024.
