Will any VCT Pacific season be complete without RRQ facing off against Gen G? These two teams have faced off six times in the last two years, with Gen G winning five of those matches. Will history repeat itself, or will RRQ come out on top? Let’s find out in this preview.
Gen G vs RRQ – VCT Pacific Kickoff 2025 Preview
The interesting part about Gen G and RRQ is that these are the two teams that have made the least changes to their rosters coming into the new season.
RRQ made just one change, with Kushy joining the roster during the offseason in 2024. Since then, the roster’s performance has been similar to a seesaw. There were multiple highs and lows performances during the tournament during the VALORANT offseason.
In the first match of RRQ during the VCT Pacific Kickoff, they defeated Detonation FocusMe. This was a close affair between the two teams, and the series ended with a score of 2-1. The first match map went to overtime with Detonation FocusMe. But RRQ returned with a bang, winning the following two maps by allowing Detonation FocusMe to win six maps in total in the next two matches – each ending with a scoreline of 13-6.
Now, they have to climb the mountain and face off against the favorites in Gen G. This season, they made two changes within their team, with Yoman and Foxy9 joining the roster. While the team hasn’t played together during an official tournament, their performance during the off-season was quite good.
In the SOOP League, Gen G made it to the grand finals but lost to NRG Esports in a clean sweep scoreline of 3-0.
Series Breakdown
Looking at the previous matches, Gen G has always proven to dominate RRQ. The last time RRQ defeated Gen G was during the VCT Pacific Stage One 2024. That match was quite a close affair, but RRQ won the series 2-1.
Looking at the previous game of RRQ, we can see they are incredible on attack. Out of the 36 rounds on attack against Detonation FocusMe, RRQ won 27 rounds. In most of these rounds, they won by killing all five enemies rather than waiting for the spike to explode.
For Gen G to win, they must ensure that RRQ does not get comfortable on attack. They should be open to losing the map ban but ensure RRQ starts on defense. Currently, that is the only chink in the armor of RRQ.
Our prediction of this VCT Pacific Kickoff match is 2-0 in the favor of Gen G with a t3xture masterclass on RRQ’s map pitch. Be sure to check out our preview for the Nongshim Red Force and BOOM Esports match-up as well.
