Another day, another set of awesome matches in the Thunderpick WC 2024 CS2 tournament. Today was all about Group C, which featured Heroic, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Imperial, and Legacy. We’ve got the full recap on who’s already going home, and who lives to fight another day for a chance to reach those Thunderpick World Championship LAN Finals next month.
Heroic comfortably lock down top spot over NiP
The top spot in Thunderpick WC 2024 Group C offered little in the way of surprises. It’s Heroic who is guaranteed to move on to the next stage, after taking down Ninjas in Pyjamas in what could only be described as the most comfortable of 2:0 series’. The opening map of Dust2 was a 13:2 demolition, and while NiP managed to make map two a little more competitive, there was still a gulf in quality that couldn’t be overcome here.
The Ninjas were hampered from the outset, with maxster still ruled out on medical grounds. We wish him well. His temporary replacement, jocab, performed admirably in his stead, topping the scoreboard for NiP throughout the defeat. Sadly, it wasn’t enough to carry his team against the likes of degster, TeSeS, and kyxsan, all of whom produced dominating performances. Heroic were the favorites at the start of the group, and with obvious individual quality like this, you can see why.
Legacy crash out against Imperial
The elimination series of Thunderpick WC 2024 Group C proved to be a battle of the Brazilians, with Imperial facing Legacy. Ultimately, the former won out, edging out a close series 2:1. The final two maps both finished 13:11, meaning this was a series that easily could have gone either way. Although Legacy have been eliminated at the earliest possible stage, their placing is perhaps an injustice to their actual play – they showed some good CS here, so it’ll be interesting to see how they perform in the upcoming Major Americas RMR.
In a server full of Brazilian players, it was Imperial’s one Argentinian representative, try, who really made the difference here. His series statline ended at 64:39, with those kills spread across all three maps. He was by far the most impactful player on the server, but it’s also worth mentioning decenty’s great performance on the Mirage decider.
Imperial now join 3DMAX and The MongolZ as Group winners in the Thunderpick WC 2024. The final team vying for that status will be decided tomorrow, when BIG, Aurora, M80, and BESTIA all take to the server in Group D.
