There’s a lot going on in any game of Fortnite, but how do you go from dropping into a Victory Royale? In Builds, there’s a well-established system and meta. Zero Builds though, that can be tricky. It’s a more random game. However, that doesn’t mean there aren’t key Fortnite Zero Build tips and tricks you can use to succeed.

These are all tips for Fortnite Zero Build, but with more reliance on the environment, your skill in navigating those final circles is going to be much more important.

Positioning is King

The main thing to keep in mind for Fortnite Zero Builds Tips is that positioning is everything in this game mode. You can’t build cover anymore. The central mechanic of Fortnite is gone, so what do you do? You need to use positioning much more wisely.

Positioning is key for winning games of Fortnite, Builds or not. However, without the crutch of building your own structures, it becomes more important for Fortnite Zero Build tips. This game’s final circles especially rely on you being in a strong position.

If you’re on the low ground, there’s little you can do. A player who can peak over natural high ground has cover and an advantage. Take care of your position, especially as the circle begins to close in. Tips for Fortnite Zero Build often just come down to getting the high ground in each final circle, with cover you can use.

Finding Natural Cover

Part of your positioning and general tactics is cover. In normal Fortnite, this is all building. Here, you need to make use of the world as cover. When you’re in fights, you should be positioned to use natural cover in the game world. Put a tree, rock, or surface between you and the enemy. Some Fortnite landing spots are better than others for this.

Now Fortnite being designed around building adds extra complexity here. Everything is breakable. If you happen to be near one of the very few unbreakable structures like Reboot Vans this can be great. Tips for Fortnite Zero Builds can reasonably include finding cover, but going for a reboot van in every fight is silly. So, we have to accept there’s a health bar to any cover you take.

When using cover to reload and protect yourself, pay attention to how much health your cover has left. An aggressive player can spry through a rock or wall and switch weapons to get you as well. Time yourself around this cover’s health. When it’s low, you’ll need to move or finish it.

Weapons

The Fortnite weapons change in most patch notes, but there are different concerns for Zero Builds. While Builds has a focus on shotgun fights that can close the deal in box fights, the open terrain makes Fortnite Zero Build tips in this department different.

When we have snipers in the game these are lethal. Getting an opponent crossing the open at mid-long range can be a free kill. Your shotguns also have to be adjusted to emphasize speed. You can’t throw a wall back up after a shot here, so the faster shotguns tend to win out.

Mobility items or those that give you more control over your positioning are vital tips for Zero Build. As are items that let you throw up your own cover, even temporarily like porta-a-bunkers. These must be carried in Zero Builds. Key Fortnite Zero Build tips are to your weaponry and loadout to the different gameplay.

Mobility Fortnite Zero Build Tips

As we’ve discussed in weapons, mobility is much more important. Now for every Fortnite season with crazy mobility items, there are ones where it’s low. In Zero Builds, low mobility gives whoever has the high ground a massive advantage. Carry whatever mobility you can to break this positioning deadlock.

This starts with making use of vehicles to rotate around. Crossing in the open is dangerous and the extra health of a car could make all the difference. Launchpads and other rotation tools help too.

In your loadout itself, having an item that lets you back out of a firefight gone wrong is vital. Without it, there’s nothing you can do to turn things around. Carry shockwaves or similar items every game so you can always back out when you lose the superior positioning. Tips for Fortnite Zero Build have to include having these items and using them whenever you’re in a fight you can’t win.

A Different Meta

Fortnite in Builds is played very differently to Zero. Even if you’re used to other modes or games, don’t force that meta in Zero builds. You’ll need to paly to the tactics that dominate here.

A recent example would be the Captain America Shield and War Machine’s Arsenal. Weapons that can block all fire or unleash a ridiculous barrage of unstoppable rockets and machine gun fire. Now, are they fair in Zero Builds? Arguably not. But you’re at a disadvantage if you don’t use them.

Fortnite often gets items that just make Zero Builds play strangely. Items that give such enhanced mobility they’re must carries, or a shield to block incoming fire no matter where you are. You’ll need to play to the meta in Zero, not try to force an honorable shotgun fight on everyone you meet.

Aim and Gun Play

Your aim is going to be a bigger factor in Zero Builds than Builds. You’ll often be engaged in fights that actually use existing cover, peeking, and a lot of mechanics without building that Fortnite doesn’t use as much normally. A key Fortnite Zero Build tips though is to focus on the aiming fundamentals.

You’ll want to practise your aim, tracking, and using weapons at a long range. Most of this is skill-based. You can head to Fortnite Creative maps to work on it, but there isn’t a simple solution to increasing your skill. Work on physical aiming, not the mechanics of using builds in gun fights.

Tips for Fortnite Zero Build would be to play the gunplay safer, but it’s your mechanical skill you’re relying on. Grinding practice to build this skill is going to help you more than just playing round after round of Zero.

Adapting to a Different Pace

Fortnite Zero Builds is a bit different to Builds. Even with the overshield players are more exposed and gunfights can get more random. If you want to play Zero, you might have to adapt to a different kind of pace.

Rather than constantly W-keying and relying on builds to put you ahead, it’s better to play smarter. Don’t take fights unless you’re in a position to win. Consider looting longer if you haven’t found those OP items yet. These tips for Fortnite Zero Build work for Builds too, but they are more important here.

The game’s bigger dangers and lack of security encourage players to go a bit more passively. We even see this in Cash Cups with the best Fortnite players in Zero Builds. It’s not uncommon to see a stacked last circle of players bubbling, bunkering, and doing anything to avoid a fight.

Fortnite Zero Build can be played quite differently, but it can be just as skilled. You’ll really need to learn the map, pay attention to rotation, and try to constantly be in the best position on the map to take a fight.

If you want to succeed, focus on what works in Zero Build, and get practicing to win more rounds.
