Although it has only been out for a short time, League of Legends players are already unhappy with the state of the new Brawl mode. Brawl is essentially team deathmatch, but for League of Legends. The game puts you in an ARAM-style map, but this time you get to pick the champion you want rather than getting one at random. At heart, the LoL Brawl mode should be a fun and enjoyable way for players to kick back, relax, and not worry about the stress of climbing out of Bronze (sorry, Bronze players).

But as is the case with the gaming community, especially League of Legends players, they’re never satisfied! LoL players took to Reddit to express their displeasure with the mode, citing that the most optimal strategies have already been established and the game is just not as fun as it could be because of this.

Is Brawl already boring?

Potentially one of the most annoying things for players on a casual mode is an optimal meta already being produced. While it’s fine for players to want to be the best, this isn’t really the mode you’re going to need to dominate on. Unless, like in Arena, they introduce a ranked version – but again, it’s a limited time mode, so why can’t it just be for fun?

One player said that within the first few hours of playing LoL Brawl mode, he noticed players had already figured out the most optimal, and some would argue, boring way of playing the game without much creativity. The player said:

“Its only a few hours in and my lobbies are already full of poke Varus, Lux, Malzahar, Sivir … waveclear is king and it’s entirely possible to just not interact. Playing melee is miserable when the entire enemy team is ranged harass and they have a full hp fountain one screen away.”

It’s a worrying sign when one of the players is wishing for another game mode to come back, rather than focus on the new mode that is out. One player in particular is hoping that Nexus Blitz would make a return rather than stick it out with Brawl, saying:

“Yeah, it was bad, I’d rather play Nexus Blitz than this, at least NB had mini game modes in a random setting and fight for it’s corresponding rewards.”

Moving back to the optimal strategies, players are complaining that the state of the game, or even this mode, is forcing players to play particular classes and or champions. This mode clearly benefits from champions with a lot of poke, good scaling, and has the capabilities of playing safe while dealing a ton of damage. Another added:

“This is true, just highlights the problem with melee champions and team fighting.”

The last problem League of Legends players have is that it feels anti-climactic, as you want to be able to play these champions with their maximum level and builds to see where they are at, but the games often end before players have enough gold or items to really have a good brawl at the end. One player said:

“I haven’t played it yet, but it sounds like the mode would benefit from starting everyone at level 6 with a significant amount of gold since the game doesn’t last long enough to scale up.” A player responded, “It’s literally ARAM, but with less. It’s very bad.”

Do you think the LoL Brawl mode will be a success?
