Esports team Oracle Red Bull Sim Racing has announced the signing of Formula Four and sim racing driver Jarno Opmeer.
Jarno Opmeer joins Oracle Red Bull Sim Racing to form a stacked lineup
The Dutch driver joins Red Bull on a multi-year deal after his stint at Mercedes. He will be partnering with F1 Sim Racing World Champion Frede Rasmussen to create one of the most successful lineups in the history of F1 Sim Racing. Opmeer replaces British sim racer Josh Idowu.
A known personality in the racing space, Opmeer gained a large fanbase on social media after showcasing his driving skills, both virtually and in real life.
“I can’t wait to get started with Oracle Red Bull Sim Racing,” said Jarno about the move. “My first race with the Team is tonight – we have been practicing hard. This weekend, I will be attending the Dutch GP as well, so it’s shaping up to be a great first week. I’m looking forward to what the future brings.”
Jarno Opmeer’s – from real life to simulation racing success
Born in 2000, Jarno Opmeer raced in Formula Renault and the F4 Championship in 2016 and 2017, before switching over to simulation racing in 2019 with the Renault-Vitality Esports Team and finishing fourth in the standings.
In the following two years, Opmeer became the 2020 and 2021 F1 Esports World champion, first with Alfa Romeo Orlen Esports Team and then with Mercedes. Throughout his career, he collected a total of 12 wins, 5 poles, and 25 podiums. In the last season, the Dutch finished 4th in the standings.
“Jarno joining our team is not only a reflection of the hard work behind the scenes from both ourselves and Team Redline, but also a statement of intent to create sustained success in Sim Racing from Oracle Red Bull Racing,” said Joe Soltysik, Head of Esports at Oracle Red Bull Sim Racing. “A lineup of Jarno Opmeer and Frede Rasmussen is the strongest possible combination of drivers in F1 Sim Racing and will hopefully bode well for our chances to reclaim the Team Championship title.”
