Out of the 12 talent predictions for the Honor of Kings Invitational Midseason (KIM) 2024, seven predicted that the KPL Dream Team would be the winners. The experienced squad from China are largely favored to win the tournament – but how easy it proves for them is a question. If day 1 is any indication, it shows how much the world has to catch up to the Chinese talents.

Why is the KPL Dream Team dominating?

The dominance of the KPL Dream Team doesn’t come as a surprise. The KPL – or the Kings Pro League (KPL) – is the top-tier esports tournament for Honor of Kings in China. For the unaware, Honor of Kings is one of the most played games in the Asian country.

Unlike the world, which is seeing the global launch of Honor of Kings in 2024, the game was available in China back in 2015. Over the years, the game’s huge popularity in the country has given rise to a structured esports scene, while the world has awaited a global release.

As a result, Chinese players are far more experienced, and technical, and possess a much more technical understanding of the game. While Level Infinite has been launching regional leagues to develop new talent globally, it’s no lie that the world has a lot of catching up to do so still.

The KPL Dream Team is chosen based on voting by fans and players in the league. In the KIM 2024, it’s made up of the following players:

Peng “Fly” Yunfei: Rogue Warriors
Li “Pang” Daheng: Wolves Esports
Huang “QingRong” Yaoqin: eStar Pro
Xu “YiNuo” Bicheng: AG Super Play
Yang “NoFear” Tao: JD Gaming

The team has likely been formed to provide Chinese representation in the league while ensuring that the top team of the KPL doesn’t completely dominate against up-and-coming talent from international teams. It seems like that goal hasn’t been fulfilled yet, at least on day 1.

In all of its games, the KPL Dream Team was able to close them out before the clock struck 11 minutes. They have already booked their slots in the Quarterfinals and will likely be continuing this domination.

The KIM 2024 will continue on Aug. 2 for its second day. Fans can catch all the action live on the Honor of Kings Global Esports YouTube channel.
