2024 LoL KeSPA Cup – revamped format and 12 participants

Officially announced today, the new KeSPA Cup is making a comeback with a new format and a total of 12 teams.

Starting on November 30 and ending on December 8, the off-season event will be broadcast exclusively on Naver Chijijik and through the Korea e-Sports Association YouTube channel.

Compared to previous editions, the new KeSPA Cup will be transformed from a pro-am competition to a competition for the selection of players in the national team, with performance and data contributing to the selection process.

Aside from the 10 teams competing in the LoL Champions Korea (LCK), the new KeSPA Cup will also see the Vietnam All-Star and Chinese Taipei All-Star teams take part. The goal is not only to test the players’ skills before the start of the new season but also to maintain international competition by playing against non-domestic teams.

Wondering how big is esports in Korea? Here’s our take on why they are so good at gaming.

The format

The format will now see the 12 teams divided into 2 groups to play a single round-robin, with the top four teams from each group advancing to the next stage.

In the main event, opponents will be determined based on the group league rankings. The winner between the first two seeds will advance directly to the semifinals, while the losing team between the #4 seeds will be eliminated. After 4 matches, the four top teams will be confirmed – the semifinals (best of 3) and finals (best of 5) will determine the final winning team.

The schedule

The group stage will last a total of four days from November 30 to December 3, with the main event kicking off the following day and the semifinals and finals on December 7-8.

The group stage and main event stage will be held online while the semifinals and finals will be held at the V Space stadium in Seoul, South Korea.

More information about the bracket and ticket sales will be announced at a later date through the Korea e-Sports Association SNS.
