The HCS Atlanta Major 2024 has its final four teams. The Championship Brackets are well underway, and we’re just a few matches away from crowning our new Halo champion. We’re taking a look at all of the action from day two, as 16 teams were whittled down to that final four.
OpTic scrape through to Championship Sunday as FaZe suffer surprise exit
The big story of the HCS Atlanta Major 2024 day two is FaZe Clan and OpTic coming face to face in the Lower Bracket. These are two teams pegged as favorites for the event, and had no business finding themselves in such a struggle. When push came to shove, it was OpTic who came out on top, condemning the HCS London Major 2024 winners to an early exit in Atlanta.
OpTic have Lucid to thank for their survival here. He’s one of the best Halo players in the entire world, and he didn’t miss a beat on a marathon day, where endurance became as much a factor as anything else. Meanwhile, FaZe will need to head back to the drawing board, as this performance simply wasn’t good enough.
SSG and Shopify Rebellion conquer Upper Bracket
Spacestation Gaming and Shopify Rebellion were the two teams who made it all the way through the Upper Bracket at the HCS Atlanta Major 2024, with both teams racking up impressive wins. Spacestation Gaming, who won the HCS Arlington Major earlier this year, were the only team to beat Pure, and finished the day without dropping a map. Meanwhile, Shopify Rebellion were able to condemn OpTic Gaming to the Lower Bracket, in a match that never felt particularly close.
Spacestation Gaming looked to stars Lqgend and StelluR for their slaying output. Both went absolutely nuclear for SSG, ensuring they were able to coast to Championship Sunday. For Shopify Rebellion, Suppressed was the hero, even managing over 100 kills in the match against OpTic. Can either of these teams go on to win the entire event? We don’t see why not.
Pure shine as Cinderella run continues
Pure have proven to be the big surprise package of the HCS Atlanta Major 2024 so far. As the Championship Brackets got underway, Pure came out of the gate with style, sweeping FaZe Clan in a 3:0 series. Despite a defeat to SSG, they were able to bounce back in style with a huge win over Into The Breach, securing a top-four finish and a place on Championship Sunday.
While all the players on Pure impressed, it was LastShot who really caught our attention. He led the way on slays for the team, and at just 19 years old, LastShot could really be having a breakout event here. Regardless of how Pure plays tomorrow, this is already a massive result for the team. We’d love to see this Cinderella run continue into Championship Sunday.
Into The Breach show great progress
While Into The Breach may have been eliminated in Atlanta, we wanted to quickly give a shoutout to their progress here. After finishing in 13th-16th place at the HCS London Major 2024, they managed to secure a 6th place finish here – a massive improvement in just over a month. When Into The Breach are red hot, they can take on anyone, with impressive wins over Quadrant and Complexity proving that here. We can’t wait to see them develop even further.
