This weekend saw the Cream City Convergence take place, a major event on the fighting game calendar. The tournament had big events for games like Tekken and Guilty Gear, but the Street Fighter event was a big focus. Not only did this tournament feature a hefty prize pool of its own, but a slot at the Capcom Cup this year was up for grabs.
Heading into the tournament, some of the best Street Fighter 6 players were lined up to attend. This includes previous winners of the Capcom Cup. With only limited slots available at this year’s tournament though, there was a lot to play for here. MenaRD has managed to lock in his slot though. How did he win the Street Fighter 6 Cream City Convergence tournament?
MenaRD Wins Cream City Convergence
At Cream City Convergence 2024, we had a lot of major players get their way through the Pools and into our final bracket. At the outset of the winners’ bracket, our first match was Dual Kevin up against Joey. MenaRD’s match in this first round though was against Nephew. He pushed ahead here, but only just with a 3-2 win.
In the Winners Final, MenaRD then faced Dual Kevin which proved a simpler match-up as MenaRD headed to the Grand Final after a 3-0 win. Over in the Losers Final, Dual Kevin was then up against EndingWalker, who had climbed his way through all rounds of this other bracket. It was Dual Kevin who headed back through to the final though.
In our Grand Final, we were set up for a rematch of the Winner’s Final. Only this time, things were a lot closer. After the loss in the Winners Final, Dual Kevin came in prepared. He won the first round 3-1, forcing a bracket reset. In the second half though, MenaRD pulled things back and won 3-0. Securing his spot at the Capcom Cup.
We’re just a short while away from the Capcom Cup now, with more and more slots getting locked in. Over the coming months, we should start to see things ramp up for the next major tournament in the opening of 2025.
