Chase The Skies with Minecraft’s Next Update

Mojang has been delivering smaller (and some may say better) updates as of late with its new “drop” system. First trialled with the Wolf Armor and Armadillo drop in 2025, the Winter Drop, Pale Garden Drop, and Spring to Life drops have expanded the game in small but meaningful ways.

Now the Chase The Skies drop will bring aerial exploits to the game as the Happy Ghast, Ghastling, Locator Bar, and more comes to the game. Here’s what’s being added in Chase the Skies.

Everything included in the Chase The Skies Minecraft Drop

  • Dried Ghast, Ghastling, and Happy Ghast

Probably the headline of the whole update, the new Happy Ghast lifecycle is going to really change the way people move around Minecraft worlds. With new Dried Ghasts to discover in the Nether, and a way to befriend them in the overworld, the ridable Ghasts are going to change the way players make buildings.

  • Locator Bar

Perhaps the most useful update to multiplayer we could imagine, the Locator Bar might just finally end the reign of F3 for ever as you can now visually see where players are in a server.

  • Leads update

Leads are pretty underwhelming and unreliable at the time of writing, but with the new Chase The Skies update, you can create leash chains, leash boats to ghasts, and all other kinds of shenanigans. Hopefully no more lead-related deaths for our beloved pets!

  • Craftable Saddles and Shearable Saddles

Saddles have been some of the rarest and most sought after items for years. Now they’re not. The craftable saddle is going to be a game-changer, and being able to shear saddles of animals who otherwise couldn’t have them removed will be fantastic.

  • New Music Disks

There’s a half dozen new music tracks coming to Minecraft. Lilypad, Below and Above, O’s Piano, Broken Clocks, Fireflies, and Tears. These are all made by Amos Reddy, and really add to the ambience of the game.

  • Vibrant Visuals (Bedrock Only!)

This is our first chance to get a hold of the new in-game native shaders called Vibrant Visuals. Unfortunately, it’s Bedrock only for now, but if you’re on Java you’ve probably been using shaders for years anyway.

Overall, it’s a huge update to Minecraft, and one that will transform a lot about how the game plays and is enjoyed. Despite being a “small drop” Mojang’s recent update, the end of the mob vote, and its change of methodology has really changed how the game plays. We don’t currently have a release date for Chase the Skies, but if we had to guess, we think we could see it towards the end of June or start of July. More details about the update are available on Mojang’s official Minecraft website .
