Despite a looming legal battle with Nintendo and The Pokémon Company, survival and monster capture game Palworld has announced an upcoming update and a collaboration with Terraria coming in 2025.

News of the new update and collab were revealed on Palworld’s official socials yesterday evening (Nov. 28), and though no details are confirmed, could see some of Palworld’s signature monsters join Terraria, and vice versa.

In September it was revealed that Palworld and developer Pocketpair were being sued by Nintendo for patent infringement. Earlier in November, Pocketpair responded, pointing out that several of the patents Nintendo had claimed they breached had been filed after Palworld’s release – something acceptable under Japanese law, but not in most other countries.

However, It seems that despite a lawsuit from Nintendo, Palworld is continuing its development. The 2024 surprise sleeper hit turned heads for its ‘Pokémon-with-guns’ aesthetic, earning an impressive player count. However the game itself is actually much more akin to your standard survival and base-building title, although the Pals (Palworld’s collectable monsters) offer an interesting twist.

Details of the new update are unknown, but will likely feature new bosses, new challenges, new dungeons, and a host of other features – all things initially promised in the game.

The collaboration with Terraria is really an unknown quantity. Will we see Terraria bosses and enemies in Palworld? Will we see Pals in Terraria? It’s all a mystery for now, one we’ll find out in 2025.

Terraria itself is no stranger to being compared to other games – at its launch it was often compared to Minecraft, and derided as a 2d version of that game. However, Terraria’s longevity comes down to its uniqueness and diversity of its bosses and content.

Both Terraria and Palworld are currently on sale during the Steam Autumn Sale, one of the biggest Steam Sale events on the calendar. So if you’re not tried either game yet, now is the perfect time to dive in ahead of the collaboration!
