Since its announcement, the Esports World Cup has taken the esports industry by storm. It’s one of the most prominent esports tournaments ever hosted globally, with a mix of console, PC, and mobile gaming tournaments for fans to watch. One of the most anticipated events this month is the PUBG Mobile World Cup (PMWC) 2024, which will feature the top 24 teams from around the world.
Day 1 of the PMWC just concluded, so let’s recap the day and what fans can expect from Day 2.
What Is the Format For PUBG MOBILE World Cup?
PMWC is one of the major tournaments during the 2024 season of PUBG Mobile Esports.
The PMWC has been split into 3 phases. The first phase was the Group Stage. In this, the 24 teams were divided into three groups of each squads each. Each group will need to play a total of 12 games. The top 12 teams from this phase qualify for the Grand Finale. The remaining 12 teams play in the survival phase of the tournament.
During this phase, the bottom 12 teams from the Group Stage and the one wildcard team from the 4 PMSL region will face off against each other. Each team will play a total of 12 matches. Following this, the top 4 teams from the Survival Stage will qualify for the Grand Finale. Below is a list of all the 16 teams that qualified for the Grand Finale:

PMWC Day 1 Highlights
Before the start of the main tournament, Mishaal Tamer performed. Following the game, the first match of the day of the Grand Finale occurred. Alpha7 Esports got the first chicken dinner with eight finish points. During this tournament, teams that finish first during a match get ten placement points and one finish point for each finish.
During game 2, we saw quite a valiant performance from TJB. They were one of the teams that qualified from the survival phases of the event. This was followed by the first chicken dinner by an Indonesian team at Talon Esports. During game 4, DRX proved why they were one of the favorites during this event by getting a chicken dinner in their name. During game 5, Alpha got their second chicken dinner from the Grand Finale. The one point to note here is that the first five games had a similar flow, but game 6 was a completely different ball game.
It was played on the map of Miramar, and one team simply stole the spotlight. It was none other than the Japanese team of Reject. They finished the game by securing a Chicken Dinner and 17 finish points. This is one of the highest finishing points during a single match of PUBG Mobile. Before this team, they did get to a maximum of 10 finishes but couldn’t secure the chicken dinner in the game. Currently, at the end of Day 1, the top 3 teams are as follows:
