Samsung Electronics is making its move into professional Dota 2 as it announces Odyssey Cup Dota 2 Championship. Revealed by release on Tuesday,  Aug. 27 the event will take place across September and October, and has a $20,000 prize pool.

The Odyssey Cup will take place between Sep. 21 and Oct.13, with qualifiers taking palace online. The Grand Finals will be held in the Hatten Hotel in Melaka, Malaysia.

The event is open to teams and players from across Oceania and Southeast Asia. Two SEA qualifier rounds will feature six teams from Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, The Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand, for a total of twelve SEA teams. Two teams from New Zealand and Australia will join the qualifiers also. These qualifiers will take place between Sep. 21-25.

Then, on the 28-29 of September, the SEA finals will feature the 12 qualified teams facing off against 4 invited pro squads, with the top six heading to the Grand Finals. These Grand Finals, set to take place between Oct. 10-13, will include the six SEA finalists and two Oceania teams.

The tournament is reportedly centered around Samsung’s state-of-the-art gaming monitors, with the finals reportedly set to be played using the peripherals. As per the release, Samsung’s new 32-inch Odyssey G8 OLED gaming monitor is “well-regarded for its 240Hz refresh rate and ultra-fast 0.03ms response time, delivers exceptional picture quality and ensures immersive gameplay so players can keep their heads in the game.”

The release went on to outline Samsung’s dedication to esports:

The even slots into the calendar just after TI2024, meaning we may see teams such as Talon and Aurora take the stage at the Odyssey Cup. Still, with a focus on SEA and oceania amateur stacks, this event could be a great showcase of the depths of talent in one of Dota 2’s strongest (and often overlooked) regions.
