LCK Summer Playoffs are kicking off this week and for the third time this split, we will be getting the iconic Telecom War between T1 and KT. Who is advancing to the next round? Let’s break down the teams in our match preview.
T1 vs KT – LCK Summer Playoffs Preview
Both teams come from a split full of ups and downs. On one hand, T1 struggled to keep up with the other “super teams” on the league and only managed to close out in the top four at the very last week. Their performance had major swings and the general impression was that the team struggled to find a good meta read that could take advantage of the team’s individuals.
KT, on the other hand, has always been the “volatile” team of the LCK. Throughout the years, fans would never know what to expect: they could easily lose to a bottom-tier team and then take down the top team of the league, just like they did with Gen.G, and deny them the perfect split. The team is always an unknown quantity, making them a thrilling addition to the fight for Worlds 2024.
With that in mind, let’s go deeper into the analysis of the two teams and what we can expect in the series.
Series Breakdown
If you’re a T1 fan, you should be rejoicing about the team’s performance in the last match against FOX. The team never looked so polished and confident, showcasing great mechanics and overall strong macro. While it was only one series against a mid-pack team, there were plenty of good signs. Moreover, the recent meta-shift seems to have helped them out once again, allowing the team to play around their key strengths better.
For KT, instead, it will depend a lot on how the players show up on the day. Among the five, I would say the focus will be on Pyosik and BeryL: the two are the most prone to have inconsistent or weird performances. You could argue that Deft and Bdd can match their respective T1 counterparts, with Zeus the only one being a tier above PerfecT.
Overall, the series will likely be a mess, regardless of the result. Every time a Telecom War unfolds, the predictions always go out of the window. In most cases, I would sense a T1 win, but if KT shows up on the day, then we might get to witness one of the most electrifying 5-game series of the entire split.
