Despite a strong start with a dominant opening map win, an eventual 3-1 loss at the hands of Team Vitality has seen Team Heretics crash out of the VCT EMEA Stage 2 playoffs and end their hopes at a regional title this season. We spoke to Dominykas “MiniBoo” Lukaševičius for a quick interview following the defeat.
Esports.net: Why do you think you ended up on the losing side today, especially after a positive map one?
MiniBoo: I don’t know what happened. I guess we’re kind of exhausted and comms slipped up maybe, like team play. And I think that happened in the second game; we lost a couple of unlucky rounds and I think our comms went down a bit. I think that’s what happened.
With tiredness such a factor, how do you think that would’ve impacted the final tomorrow if you did make it through?
MiniBoo: Of course tomorrow we would play the same – exhausted a bit. Everyone is exhausted, Fnatic as well. We still get consequences from Madrid, Shanghai, everything. There are not a lot of breaks, there is no preparation. And you just have to, like, play, play, play and play, and it’s kind of tough, you know. But everyone is tired, Vitality is tired as well playing four officials in five days.
Lee Jones: Regardless of today’s result, you’re already qualified for VALORANT Champions.
Are you confident Heretics can mount a title charge?
Obviously. As I said, we are exhausted a bit now, but we have some time off to reset our minds and then start grinding again. It’s gonna be our last push and then we head into off-season, so we don’t have to save energy anymore. We’re gonna make sure that we play good and if the result will come, it will come.
What’s the big brother/little brother dynamic like while you have your big brother as a teammate?
Lee Jones: Does it ever cause the dynamic to change, for example after a day where you’ve been on fire in practice whereas Boo has maybe had an off day?
MiniBoo: In the game, he’s IGL and I’m Duelist. He’s not my brother, he’s my IGL in game. And in real life nothing changes; he’s kind of lazy in real life and I am more a kind of a person who likes to do stuff. So, outside the game, he’s just my brother.
What are your predictions for the final?
I think it’s going to be a close game to Fnatic.
