If there is one thing that VALORANT fans don’t like to happen to them, it’s to lose their rank. This is called De-ranking in VALORANT. It simply means to fall from a given rank to the one lower to it. In Patch 10.01, VALORANT introduced a new feature known as Rank Shields which will allow you to prevent being de-ranked. Curious to know how they work in the game? Well, let us see all the details about the new VALORANT Rank Shields.

The VALORANT Ranking System currently has many ranks with the highest being Radiant and the lowest being Iron.
There are three tiers within each rank. For example, in the Silver rank, players will have the rank of Silver 1, 2, or 3, with Silver 1 being the lowest tier and Silver 3 being the highest tier. Players can increase their rank and tier by winning matches within VALORANT and obtaining rank rating points in-game.
In the past, many players hoped the game would introduce a rank shield to ensure players don’t lose their rank. The prominent feature released in VALORANT Patch 10.01 is Rank Sheilds. Here’s how it works to prevent you from being de-ranked in VALORANT:
- If a player reaches the first tier of a rank, for example: Gold 1, they will be given two rank shields.
- On 0 RR, if a player loses a game, they will lose one shield, leaving one remaining.
- If the player loses the next game, they will lose the other shield while on 0 RR. This means that all Rank Shields are exhausted.
- Now, if three games are lost in a row, the player will be demoted to the previous rank (in this case, from Gold 1 to Silver 3).
Points to note
Players must note that no rank shields exist in other tiers of a given rank, like Silver 2 and 3. This means it only works on the first tier (Tier 1) of any given rank.
It must also be noted that you don’t need to buy these shields in the VALORANT store; they will be free. Each promotion or demotion to a particular rank’s tier 1 will provide a player with two shields. What do you think of this feature? Let us know in the comments below.
