Fortnite skins are maybe the biggest part of the game at this point, spanning loads of pop culture crossovers, original characters, and even customizable avatars. To a lot of players, the coolest are a reason to play by themselves, the best Fortnite skins.
It is really more a matter of opinion than anything else. For some players, the rarest Fortnite skins are going to be their top picks. To others, it’s going to be those who have crossed over from their favorite anime or other video games. For some there’s a sentimental reason, like getting wins with one character a lot. While it’s a matter of opinion, there are some that jump out more.
Trying to be a bit objective, we’ve highlighted some of the best Fortnite skins in Chapter 6. The ones that have had the biggest impact on the game, have become completely iconic as characters, or signal a big development in Fortnite. These are some of the best Fortnite skins.
Best Fortnite Skins
25. The Default
Beginning our list we have something that’s barely a skin. The Default.
This is more of the absence of a skin than one itself. It’s what gets selected if you don’t pick an outfit. It’s the outfit that most players use first. A lot of people move on pretty quickly, but the Default is special. It might signify a player who has never used V-Bucks, but it also has a certain charm. The Humble Default is worthy of being one of the best Fortnite skins, even if no one really wants to use them.
24. Skull Trooper

Skull Trooper is a really fun addition to the Fortnite skins. It’s one of our earliest really cool skins. It arrived for Halloween in Fortnite’s early days. Players assumed it wasn’t coming back… and then it did.
Skull Trooper was in the first-ever item shop and a lot of players thought it wasn’t going to ever return. Once it did, the original owners got a unique style to make sure they didn’t miss out. It’s one of the first cases of Epic keeping a certain skin for OG players, something that’s been repeated since.
23. Fishsticks
Fishsticks is definitely worth highlighting as one of the best Fortnite skins. He’s one of the most recognizable original characters, he’s even been a princess from time to time. As one of Fortnite’s most recognizable characters, this is one of the more fun Fortnite skins.

Fishsticks is available in tons of varieties but the original is probably the most iconic. He also has quite a backstory in Fortnite lore. Not to mention fun cutscenes through the years.
22. Meowscles
Meowsicles isn’t the rarest skin, hailing from the longest out of all seasons’ Battle Pass. But he’s struck a chord with the community. Between his emotive appearance and cat home on the map, he had a lot more personality than your average skin. He’s got a son, a goth little sister who built loads of hype as one of the Fortnite leaked skins for that season. There’s even an evil shadow Meowscles.
Any new Meowscles variant is exciting and the original is why this cat family is so beloved. More recently he’s got a Midas-version, but the basic Meowscles is pretty cool too.

21. El Chapulin Colorado

We could go over the most popular Fortnite skins, but there’s something really fun about El Chapulin Colorado. It’s one of those skins that nobody seems to have or like. Which in its own way makes it really unique.
These skins were included in Chapter 2 as a tie-in and weren’t very popular. They’re goofy and don’t really capture much of Fortnite’s core audience. However, that poor reception has made them rare, just through lack of interest. There’s something so fun about seeing one of these bizarre characters in-game. Since they’re so rarely used, it almost feels like you’ve run into a player using mods. One of the best if you’re going for the most obnoxious pick.
20. Demogorgon
The Demogorgon is one of the weirder crossover skins we’ve ever got. It’s not remotely human, almost doesn’t even really fit the Fortnite world! It’s a fun skin that always stands out in lobbies.
The Demogorgon is one of the best Fortnite skins that didn’t show up very much, until Chapter 5 and beyond. This batch of skins was one of our first crossovers and never returned until a single day during Fortnite OG! It has been back since, but this back absence added a lot of mystery to the skins.

19. Hatsune Miku

One of the most recent Fortnite collabs really take fire is Hatsune Miku! The vocaloid is here for a season of Fortnite Festival. This is the kind of crossover that people have been requesting in the game for years. However, it took until Chapter 6 to get them actually in-game. Hatsune Miku is a very well-designed skin, with some great emotes and other styles. It’s maybe the most exciting of the Festival artists so far.

The Fallout Power Amor is a newer addition to the best Fortnite skins. It’s the armor-class brotherhood character put into the World of Fortnite. This one takes an iconic gaming character, and it does really stand out in lobbies for Battle Royale. We haven’t actually had that many Fortnite Gaming Legends skins to say how popular they are, so they still stand out.
17. Ninja
The Fortnite Icon Series has been a game-changer. Real-world icons are directly represented in Fortnite. Ninja was the first Fortnite streamer to make this series. Love him or hate him, he’s so associated with Fortnite it makes a lot of sense to get his own skin. He’s worth highlighting as one of the best Fortnite skins for starting off Epic bringing content creators into the game itself. If you’re a fan of the streamer, he’s likely a top pick for cool Fortnite skins.

Fortnite skins come in a few varieties, but some of the best Fortnite skins are the sily ones. In that category, Jellie is one of the best. He’s a jelly-like creature without much real form or definition. Just a bit of a goofy guy. Fortnite can take different approaches for its skins, but the light-hearted ones like Jellie are some of the most fun to actually run into in-game.

Omega is one of the older skins that’s still ranked as one of the best Fortnite skins. It’s a character from mid Chapter 1, but it had a special stretch goal that’s still talked about. Level up further than normal, and you’d unlock an extra style with more effects. This stretch-level represented the peak of commitment in Fortnite’s earlier days. It’s still one that’s impressive to see in a locker if it’s fully unlocked.
14. Naruto
Another “first-time” skin that’s important is the Naruto skin. This crossover brought a few characters into the game but the protagonist is probably the most iconic. This crossover is where Epic began to bring anime into the game which has led to loads of the most popular skins arriving in the game.

The Fortnite Michael Myers skin is another “first”, of sorts. The game included the Halloween character in 2023 Fortnitemares. What’s fresh about this one is it represents a much more mature franchise finally hitting Fortnite. As well as being a fun skin by itself, this one proved that things don’t have to fit the Fortnite audience necessarily to be a skin in-game.
12. Black Knight

With the launch of Fortnite OG as its own mode, there’s been some changes to the rarest Fortnite skins. Really old skins have come back, meaning really only the oldest Battle Pass skins are truly locked way. The oldest of these is the Black Knight. It’s a cool skin that was part of the first proper battle Pass. It’s gotten new versions a couple of times but the original is up as one of the best Fortnite skins.

Mystique is one of the most unique Fortnite skins we’ve ever seen. It’s not just a skin, it’s pretty much all skins.
Mystique has a special ability. A built in emote that allows her to shapeshift into any other skin! It’s a really cool feature and one that’s never been used outside of this skin. It’s strange that we’ve never seen anything like it since. If you have Mystique in your locked though, it’s one of the most useful skins available.

What’s special about Maya is it has billions of possible looks. There’s a good chance no one else has your version of the skin.
9. Goku
Goku is probably the most popular out of the anime crossover skins added to Fortnite. The icon of Shonen manga and anime as a whole has been in Fortnite for a while, originally coming with a big crossover event. These anime skins are some real highlights of recent Chapters. The Goku Fortnite skin goes further than most. He has tons of transformations as other styles and is one of the more polished skins they’ve released.
With so many transformations and a polished look, Goku is a great example of the ‘Pop Culture Icon X Fortnite” best skins, a standout even among the crossovers. He’s even had an evil version, Goku Black, added in Chapter 4. There’s been loads more Dragon Ball skins since Goku got added.

8. Midas
Midas is another character from the start of Chapter 2. However, he’s become an important skin in Fortnite lore. A lot of seasons and events have centered around what’s going on with Midas. On top of that, his unique effect of turning everything to gold made him a lot of fun to play. Having a special mechanic makes him unforgettable in Fortnite. You always know when there’s a Midas in the lobby

7. Renegade Raider
Renegade Raider is one of the most recognizable skins in the game. It’s primarily known as being one of the rarest. This was a Season 1 skin, it came really early so only OG players picked it up at the time. It has come back more recently in a Remix form, but it remains a pretty well-known and iconic Fortnite skin.

6. Lexa Skin
Lexa was the first of the anime skins to get added to the game. However, if you’re a long-time player, you probably know this one better as “Anime Girl”. This kicked off Epic using a filter for the Fortnite anime skins, with one in each Battle Pass. It’s worth a mention as one of the best Fortnite skins. While it’s not the most popular anime skin, it’s one of the first. The character has gotten new styles that remain as popular too.

5. Spider-Man
Spider-Man is one of the most iconic superheroes and his inclusion in Fortnite was a pretty big deal. This skin was the headline Level 100 skin in the start of Chapter 3, coming with tons of alternative styles featuring different versions of Spider-Man. It even launched the in-game web-slinger items which have become some of the most missed forms of mobility.

4. Superhero Skins
This one is a weird pick, but this skin has had a life of its own. The customizable skin was supposed to be a fun way to create your own character, just some cool Fortnite skins. Then the sweats found it.
Players used this skin to make characters in one single block color. Although it wasn’t the intention, it’s become what this skin is known for. This gave them camouflage and other slight advantages that have made it a mainstay of sweaty build fights. We even see players arguing over whether solid black or solid white colors give you the biggest performance upgrade, that being an extremely slight one. A favorite of the best Fortnite players and try-hards alike. Although, it probably wouldn’t make the list for a lot of more casual Fortnite players.

3. Galaxy
The Galaxy skin made headlines in Fortnite news on release for getting bundled in with a Phone. Epic’s done similar deals since, but the skin you had to buy a smartphone for was pretty shocking at the time. Between this and how unique the skin was, Galaxy is one of the best Fortnite skins.

2. Jonsey
In both lore and recognisability, Jonesy might be the best Fortnite skin. He’s basically the mascot at this point. Jonesy is the original default that’s gone on to have hundreds of different lives across his various incarnations. He’s the main character of Fortnite. The best skins really have to acknowledge his role.
Although, for the number 1 spot he’s just missed out, to his best friend.

1. Peely
Peely just pulls into the number 1 spot of Fortnite skins for one reason; he better represents the game than Jonesy. He’s just as much of a central character (his kidnapping even being the main storyline for Chapter 5), but has more going on.
Jonsey might be the protagonist, but Peely is just as recognizable as a Fortnite original character. What edges him ahead is that he better represents the sense of fun in Fortnite skins. Who wants a skin that’s practical and suited for a 100-man gunfight to the death? It’s much more fun to have wacky off-the-wall designs.
Peely has been at the center of loads of memes and helped create the Fortnite community as it now is. The banana is often the hero of moments in Fortnite’s story and he seems to be the clue that holds so many of the game’s characters together. He’s one of the best Fortnite skins for both being such a recognizable character and completely embodying the fun that’s made the game such a success.

That’s one interpretation of what the best Fortnite skins are. However, we could also look at raw use rates. These obviously change all the time with more recent skins often getting to the top quickly only to fade just as fast. However, tools that track skin usage in Fortnite’s API have highlighted these as the top 10 most recently.

Most of these probably fit the definition of sweaty Fortnite skins! Half of them are just the base for blank superhero skins. Aura and others are even known “zero latency skins”. These do dominate the most popular Fortnite skins for some reason.
Zero Latency skins is a bizarre micro-optimization that’s taken over the Fortnite community lately. However, these most used skins clearly show one thing, a lot of Fortnite players pick their skins based on performance!
Definitely interesting considering how much the “cool skins” and best Fortnite skins dominate the conversation. It’s the practical skins that seem to dominate the actual lobbies. Even adjusting just for the more recent usage, we’ll usually see one specific character model of each Battle Pass in first, the smallest female hitbox. The best Fortnite skins show how creative you can get with your outfit though.
