What is Dota 2 Ranked Reset?

Historically, a ranked reset in Dota 2 is a seasonal occasion that prompts players to recalibrate their Dota 2 rank, which adjusts their standing within the ranked matchmaking system. On that note, it’s not an option, as all Dota 2 accounts’ MMR will automatically become TBD (to-be-determined).

By resetting player rank, Valve ensures that Dota 2’s ranked matchmaking system aligns to the player base’s median MMR in each medal. That means, over time, a certain digit MMR that used to be in Archon rank, might decrease if the overall player skill reduced.

When is the next Dota 2 ranked reset?

Since 2023, Valve has not announce any specific date for the next Dota 2 ranked reset. This means Dota 2 ranked reset is no longer compulsory every season or annual. Instead, players can opt to reset and calibrate their rank on their own.

Dota 2 Ranked Calibration

When a ranked reset occurs, players go through the process of playing the next ten calibration matches to determine their new MMR. Many players take this opportunity to hopefully recalibrate their MMR to a higher digit.

As rumor has it, winning the first few calibration matches is crucial to ensure you gain a good leap in MMR. The theory is that the first few matches’ average MMR will have the most significant difference.

How to recalibrate your MMR in Dota 2?

If you’re ready to recalibrate, here’s a step-by-step guide to initiate the reset:

  1. Launch Dota 2 and access the main menu.
  2. Navigate to the settings menu, typically located in the upper-left corner.
  3. Within settings, go to the ‘Account’ tab where your MMR information is listed.
  4. Activate Recalibration by finding the “Recalibrate MMR” button and select it to start the process.
  5. After starting recalibration, complete 10 calibration matches to finalize your new MMR.

As mentioned, the first few matches are the most important to win and perform at your best. Hence, we advise that you:

  • Focus on your best roles, such as playing signature heroes and roles you’re most familiar with.
  • Cooperate and communicate with your team to improve coordination.
  • Utilize the most recent Dota 2 meta in PGL Wallachia S2 and DreamLeague S24.

Good luck and happy calibrating! And if you’re still looking for some help in ranking up, check out the best Dota 2 heroes to climb ranks with in 2024
