The HCS Atlanta Major 2024 has wrapped up, and Spacestation Gaming are your champions! Taking home a cool $100,000 prize pool, Spacestation Gaming win their second Major of 2024, after previously emerging victorious at the HCS Arlington Major 2024. Here’s a little more on the action from the final day of play.

Spacestation Gaming have done it. The odds were officially upset in this matchup, with SSG taking down OpTic 4:1 in the best-of-seven series. We knew that Spacestation Gaming have been playing some cohesive Halo throughout this event, but we had that lingering doubt that they’d go on to take the trophy. But hey, what do we know?

In the Grand Final of HCS Atlanta Major 2024, SSG needed two players to step up to get the win. Both Bound and StelluR put on a show in Atlanta, with 103 and 92 slays respectively. To put that into perspective, no OpTic player managed over 80 across the series. If there were any doubters about the quality of Spacestation Gaming before, there certainly isn’t now. This was world-class Halo.

OpTic fall at the last hurdle

To reach the Grand Final of the HCS Atlanta Major 2024, OpTic Gaming had to run the full Lower Bracket gauntlet. There were many close calls, but they persevered all the way to the finish. Ultimately, they just ran out of gas at the final hurdle, despite arguably coming into the event among the favorites.

Crucially, after their loss in the HCS London Major earlier this year, and earlier defeats in the Finals of the Arlington Major and HWC 2024, this is the fourth Grand Final failure in a row for OpTic Gaming. They need to find a way to buck this trend, as it must be taking a mental toll on these players at this point. Still, they’ll always have the Lucid highlight, in what will likely go down as the best Halo Infinite clip of 2024.

Pure miracle run ends in 4th place finish

We knew it was unlikely that Pure would go on to win the HCS Atlanta Major 2024, but you have to admire their efforts. They were the first team eliminated on Championship Sunday, although a 4th place finish at an event they had no business going this deep in is a huge achievement.

It remains to be seen if this is just a one-off event for Pure, but we hope it isn’t. At their best in Atlanta, they could compete with anyone, the highlight being that 3:0 sweep against FaZe Clan. If they can stay competitive in the months ahead, we could have another big challenger in the Halo scene.
