Twenty-one-year-old Tyler “sym” Porter has passed away after a car crash, leaving the VALORANT community mourning.
A friend posted the news on May 5th, saying that the car accident happened while sym was on a birthday trip. The post read: “I know he brought laughs and smiles to a lot of people and If any you have a nice memory or interaction with him please feel free to share it.”
Many friends shared their memories with sym under the post, then TSM quoted the tweet with its own heartfelt message.
“From elevating our Academy program to helping us reach Ascension on the main roster, you left your mark on TSM VALORANT. You had so much ahead of you, and we’ll miss you dearly, sym. May you and Austen rest in peace.”
sym has been active in VALORANT esports since 2020. This included competing with Moist Moguls and TSM. He was currently a stand-in for Winthrop University’s roster. With Moist Moguls, he placed first at the VALORANT Challengers 2023: North America Split 2 and For Those Who Care with TSM in 2024. That year, he was also the Group Stage Day 1 MVP in VCT Ascension Americas 2024.
The VALORANT community reacted with sadness over such a young life lost. Despite being so young, he made a huge impact in VALORANT.
Said one fan: “I’ll never forget when he had 32(!!!!) first bloods in a bo3 against YFP. 32 first bloods in 61 rounds played. Just an absurd talent.”
Another added: “He was such a promising up-and-comer in Tier 2, was rooting for him so much to succeed somehow… Gutted to hear him pass away at such a young age, condolences to his family and friends, man.”
