Looking through the latest Fortnite weekly quests, you’ll spot a few that are once again referencing a mechanic that isn’t exactly widely used. For the second time this season, there’s quests asking in Fortnite to recruit defeated henchmen. How exactly can you do this?
It’s a feature we first saw in a past Fortnite season, the first Marvel season. In this season, you could “tame” defeated NPC henchmen and have them join you as an extra squad member. A bit of a useless squad member, not really on the level of the current hireable NPCs, but a nice addition anyway. The quests seem to suggest that this mechanic has come back, but how can you actually get it done?

How to Recruit Defeated Henchmen in Fortnite
If you’re looking to recruit defeated Henchmen in Fortnite and complete the latest weekly quest, there’s one big problem. The feature doesn’t work.
It could have been done in the same way as Chapter 2. You knock an opponent’s henchmen, go up to them, and hold interact. They get back up and join your team. This worked for the opening hours of the season. You might have even seen some of the biggest Fortnite streamers showing it off in their “new season” videos. However, going to do it yourself, it doesn’t work.
It turns out this feature was removed within hours of the season launching. It apparently had some problems. This happened so fast a lot of players missed it entirely. You can’t recruit defeated henchmen in Fortnite. Although, there is still a workaround for these kinds of quests.
If you want to know how to recruit defeated henchmen in Fortnite, you’ll have to wait until Epic brings the feature back. If they do at all, however, you can still complete the quests.
How to Complete the Quests

With the feature still missing, how can you complete quests that take you to recruit NPCs? You have to use the system that’s been in play for the last few Chapters, hiring NPCs.
NPC characters come in a few types, one of these can be hired. Each is a different specialist that fulfills a role in your team. There are fewer hireable NPCs this season, but if you have the gold, you can get an extra teammate. It’ll take a bit longer than recruiting defeated henchmen in Fortnite, but this is how you can get the quest finished up. Head to one of the Fortnite NPC locations and hire the character instead.
