We’re into the final stages of the Thunderpick WC 2024 EU Qualifiers now, after an intense set of Quarter-Finals matches. There are some big names left in the competition, with Cloud9 and BetBoom still fighting for that final qualifying spot in the Thunderpick World Championship 2024 CS2 tournament in October.

But how did the Quarter-Finals go? Let’s look at some of the noteworthy storylines.

BetBoom make short work of Gaimin Gladiators

We were 50/50 on the tie between BetBoom versus Gaimin Gladiators, but it proved to be a swift series as the Russian team took down the Danes with an easy 2:0. The truth is that Gaimin Gladiators were never in this series, and probably should have given a better account of themselves here.

BetBoom will like what they saw from zorte and KaiR0N- in this series, both of whom were putting up huge numbers to drag the team to the Semi-Finals. That said, the numbers just weren’t there for Gaimin Gladiators, with total vanishing acts from experienced players like roeJ and niccoodoz. Considering the hype around this core when they were picked up from ECSTATIC, the results have remained consistently disappointing. They need to pick themselves up and keep grinding these online events for the foreseeable future.

Cloud9 remain favorites after ALTERNATE aTTaX win

With Cloud9 facing ALTERNATE aTTaX, there always should only have been one winner here. Cloud9 got the job done successfully, although it did take them going a map down before they finally got into gear, taking the series 2:1. With the last map finished 13:4, ALTERNATE aTTaX simply ran out of steam here, and needed to get Cloud9 out of there in two to progress.

Looking at the teams remaining in the tournament, you’d have to nail Cloud9 down as massive favorites. Stars ICY and HeavyGod are firing, Ax1Le looks solid, and even interz showed up to play against ALTERNATE aTTaX. It should be a level of firepower that proves too much for the tournament’s remaining teams, but let’s see how things shake out.

Young Ninjas storm past TSM

From all the Thunderpick WC 2024 EU Qualifiers Quarter-Finals results, Young Ninjas waltzing past TSM in 2:0 fashion might be the most surprising of all. Realistically, it’s a result that should never be happening for TSM, especially when you look at some of the experienced names on this roster like valde, acoR, and niko.

On the day, TSM were mostly a one-man army, with Zyphon doing the most to keep them alive in the series. Another poor showing from AWPer acoR as well as an uncharacteristic performance from Altekz hurt their chances in this one, but take nothing away from Young Ninjas. They showed up across the board, with xKacpersky emerging on the top of the pile. Keep an eye on this kid – he’s a huge talent.
