Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) Pro Series (BMPS) 2024 has just come to an end with Team XSpark lifting an official event’s trophy for the second time this year. But this wasn’t the most interesting conversation on the first and second days of the tournament. Even before the tournament ended, the audience wanted to know what was going to follow the BMPS. Is it going to be the India vs Mongalia BGMI Invitational? Apparently not, Krafton has confirmed.
As rumors take over the internet once again regarding what’s going to happen after BMPS 2024, Esports.net got a chance to talk to Karan Pathak, the Associate Director of Esports at Krafton India about the same. In addition to this, he also leaves a few hints about whether or not fans can see an international team traveling to India for a face-off.
Pathak calls BGMI India-Mongolia Invitational Rumor a “lie”
Since 2023, players and fans have been anticipating that after South Korean teams, they will also get to see other international teams set foot on Indian soil.
At the beginning of the 2024 competitive season, there was a lot of gossip about the India-Nepal Invitational happening in the country. This gave fans hope to see DRS Gaming compete against the Indian legends. The last time they were in the country, PUBG Mobile was still playable in the country. But this rumor didn’t last for a long time, and conversations started popping up about the India-Mongolia BGMI invitational.
Talking to Aaryanshi Mohan of Esports.net at the BMPS 2024, Karan Pathak confirmed this rumor to be untrue.
“So, community gossip, right? I’ve been known to respond with this beautiful answer: ‘I don’t respond to community gossip.’ And no… I confirm that whoever is spreading this rumor, [it] is a lie,” said Pathak.
“They have been meeting…,” Karan Pathak gives details about international teams
Since BGMI is a game for India, it doesn’t leave the players, especially the ones who play competitive esports a chance to interact with the teams from other countries. When asked about whether we can see other international teams coming to India, Pathak had something really interesting to say.
“International teams have been coming to India across, but news channels have not been known about it. They come here, they have been meeting the other players and they are trying to create content over here.”
However, it seems that this indicates interest of international teams investing into the Indian esports’ ecosystem and not a potential cross-region tournament in BGMI. Still there is plenty of time left in the year, so it remains to be seen if that changes.
To jog your memory, in 2023, Krafton invited the top 8 South Korean teams to compete against the top 8 Indian teams from BGIS 2023 in Delhi. DPlus had dominated the competition and walked away with a prize of $48,034.29. So, now that the two official tournaments are over, fans want to know if they can see the Titans lock horns again.
