After failing to make it to the League of Legends 2024 World Championship, more troubling news have arisen from C9 as jojopyun has reportedly been fired from the team.
C9 jojopyun kicked due to excessive tardiness
First reported by former professional LoL player and current creator IWillDominate, C9 has fired their mid lane Jojopyun, coming as a shock for the majority of the League community. IWD has claimed the player’s contract was terminated due to excessive tardiness throughout the year.
After the initial signals of such behavior, IWD revealed that C9 had started tracking the instances in which the mid lane showed up late. From team meetings, workouts, scrims, and other obligations, C9 had counted 43 instances of tardiness, which eventually led to the contract’s early termination.
What happens now?
The news created major concerns among the League community, some stated that being late more than 43 times is unacceptable in a professional environment, especially since Jojopyun was seen as a domestic superstar. The guy immediately gained traction back in 2020 when he was considered a solo queue prodigy and scouted the following year to Evil Geniuses. In less than four years, Jojopyun became the hottest mid lane talent in the league, and according to his teammate and C9 jungler Blaber, jojo is the “highest-paid player in the league”.
While it’s unclear as to what might be the cause of such a behavioral pattern, jojopyun’s exit from C9 shortly after the end of the LCS championship comes as a surprise that will likely impact the entire off-season, especially now that North America and South America will be reunited under the Americas League. That being said, there should be enough time for things to settle in and figure out what both C9 and Jojopyun will do going forward, as the transfer window is set to officially start in November.
